d16z6 head on y8 block
would i lose power if i swapped my y8 head for a z6 head? I found a good deal on a built z6 head, but since the y8 head flows better do you think it wouldn't be wise to put on a z6 head?
You found a good deal on a built Z6 head? Put it on. The differences between the 2 are negligable. I hear the Y8 has more emissions sensitive combustion chambers, and the Z6 is slightly better; but the Y8 has a higher lift cam. I hear they're like comparing B16 heads to GSR heads.
here's a thread on the D-Series board discussing the Z6 vs Y8.......

so i should ditch my y8 head and go with the z6 on the y8 block? wouldn't this lower my compression? also what would i need to do the swap? also it would be best to keep the y8 intake manifold instead of a z6 right?
Well it depends on what you want to do with your setup. The above link posted by D-Man is an EXCELLENT referrence, mostly due to the details pictures comparing the Z6 head to the Y8. If you read it, you would see that, with some porting work, the Y8 head has more potential than the Z6 - only AFTER port work.
But to answer your above questions, the Z6 head will LOWER your compression if installed on the Y8 block, not too much though. And yes, the Y8 I/M flows much better than the Z6 - it's the best D-series I/M out there.

what extra parts would i need to swap on the z6 head onto my d16y8. I already have all the parts like the y8 manifold and stuff because my car is a 98 ex so it has that whole engine. Would i need any z6 parts to swap over?
Your gonna have a problem with the Distributor. The Y8 Distributor will not bolt up to the Z6 head and you cant use the Z6 distributor with the Y8 electronics
The y8 distributer works fine! cut one bolt hole off, file the top bolt hole as much as possible and the third bolt hole is not used. The electronics match up fine, you just need to set your timing because it is going to be really retarted. The filling allows you to get more adjustment from the distributer
