Exhaust housing has Garrett on it, but not on the Intake side. I've taken it apart and noticed the orange ring around the turbo on the intake side is slightly stretched. I pushed it back in the groove, and the turbo has absolutely no shaft play!
When he ran the turbo on his car the car smoked like a train but he was also running a -4an oil line w/ no restrictor. It was on the car for about 20miles. I got him a good deal on the turbo and told him to switch to a -3an line and the smoking stopped. So he has given me this turbo and I can't find any information on it. Can anyone help me out here?

So my questions are...

Does this look like a legit Garrett turbo, how can I tell or verify?
Should I be concerned about the orange ring?
What kind of power is this type of turbo rated at?
Would a -4an oil feed line with no restrictor make the turbo smoke?

i ran a -4 on mine and got no smoke back in the day

 

Hmmmm

I guess I'm going to slap this turbo on my buddies car who is running a -3an line and see if it smokes. Only reason that makes me think it was the line as the downpipe was full of oil... LOL .. But I guess it could be the seals but I had them inspected by a local diesel injection and they said they are fine...
