Turbo Oiling setups...........lets discuss possable setups.
I was thinking the other day how cool it would be if you could run a seperate oil system for the turbo. It would have it's own pump, reservoir, filter, and cooling setup. This would help take a load off the engine + turbo wouldn't it? Plus you could run oil better suited for the turbo and oil better suited for the engine. The only little problem I could see is the oil for the turbo wouldn't warm up as quickly on cold days as the engine oil. Also you could run the turbo oil setup after the car is shut off to keep oil from baking on. One other problem I see is cost for the only pumps out there that I know of for oil cost a fortune! Anyone care to add or through in some ideas please do so.
Pretty simple to do, just high because you would be using all dry sump engine stuff to do it. the only problem is that the oil resevoir would have to be below the turbo to get gravity to take the oil back to the resevoir, if even the slightest amount of pressure builds up on the exit side of the turbo, the life of the seals is significantly shortened.
You are right about the collecting can having to be lower than the turbo. It would be really neat to have it located about where the AC compressor would be. Then you could us some kinda of belt driven pump if you wanted to.
