Default turbo or nitrous??

whats up??? i have a 99 d16y8 that im going to be dropping in my EG. ima going to have a budget of about 1500 this summer to work on the motor with. i know D16 turbos put out good numbers but im not going to be building the block. So my question is...... would a D16 turbo be reliable enough to run daily driven at about 7 pounds on a stock block or will it not hold??

also, im thinking insead of boost to do some headwork and spray a 50 - 65 shot. thinking of either zex or crower stage 2 cam with zex or crower valvesprings and retainers. approx. how much power would the d16 with cam, VS, retainers, i/h/e, and a 50 shot put out???
any help is appreciated.

yea your block should be fine... .i wouldnt go over 10 lbs though.

go boost! you can get nice #s, piece a turbo kit together and voila!
then later on if you want more power you can build the motor and boost some more.
edit* LOOK! http://www.homemadeturbo.com/t...t3-t4/ (not a y8-but so what, its awesome)

BOOST.

While nitrous may be cheaper on the front end, having to constantly fill bottles will be a pain in your *** and wallet. You can run up to 10 PSI on your stock internals relatively safely (I run 8 with no problem). You can also get yourself blown (so to speak) for 1500 easy. Go to homemadeturbo.com and turbod16.com and read up.

Nitrous is like a quick fix. Sure, it's cheap and you'll feel the power, but a turbo has SO much more room for upgrading and expanding your potential.

Personally, I would spend that $1500 on an LS swap, unless you're bent on staying single cam, in which case I would recommend turbo over nitrous.

Boost baby. I had zex nitrous kit before it was cool at first put having to keep filling up the bottle was an starting to be an hassle and plus a bottle only last for so lond when you are using it depending on what shot you are using.

Nitrous is like leasing power, it seems cheap at first, then you pay, pay, pay(bottle refills) and in the end you have nothing to show for it.

Let me give you an example

$500 nos kit + misc heaters/gauges/ect..
50 Bottle fills at an average price of $30 =$1500
Year later when it's time to sell it and go turbo like you should have in the first place, you only have a $300-$350 used Nitrous kit to sell

Also I like to have power at the pedal all the time, not just when i have the bottle filled. When i had nos on my gsr I found that everytime I found a good race my bottle was empty. Alos 90% of "Nos guys" are anoying, when they lose all you hear is " My bottle pressure was too low" or "wait 30 minutes until my bottle warms up" . It's too inconsistent for my taste, just spend the $ up front and go turbo .
