Default Turbo mounting question

im wondering how i should mount my turbo. should the compressor be on the left side or right side(if you are standing looking at the engine bay from the front of the car). does this effect in any way the oil feed and return lines? i need to order my dp and need to pic a side. here are pics of the turbo im getting too. its a small t3/t4.

Mount it how ever you like. Make it as easy as possible to fit the down pipe to the exhaust and all the piping to intake manifold. after you figure that out loosen the bolts around the compressor and turbine and clock the center section so the oil feed is up and drain down. Clock the compressor housing for an easy fit.

you can adjust how the compressor and exhaust housings sit? didnt know that. im just curious though on what would be easier/cost effective/(any reason) on why to orient it a certain way. perhaps for ease of running fmic piping or whatever. tell me, thanks.

ok you casn only rotate the compressor housing and center section. you want your oil in and oil out to be vertical with oil drain out straight down. by turning the compressor side so it point downward amkes it easy to route IC piping. the filter then would sit behind the left front headlights. putting the turbo the other way would cause closer clearences between your filter and IC piping etc.

I'd love to get that setup, it'd be perfect for an air-liquid intercooler. I might look into it for my prelude, prolly have to sell a kidney to afford that mani though.

no,

an easier way to think of it is the filter and compressor will be on the passenger side. the turbine will be on the drive side. there's no wrong or right way. which ever way fits best... but usually to run a FMIC, it's easiest to have it as above

the homemade setup above will be using a air- liquid intercooler. Will have a very short section of charge pipe. the downpipe goes down and exits infront off passenger sie front tire

here is the down pipe

New intake manifold

just go to http://www.homemadeturbo.com and find build ZC/ Race ZC

so its better to have the compressor on the passengers side. i thought that perhaps having the compressor closer to the drivers side to run the ic piping would be easier, but i dunno. set me straight on what i should do.

there is a very similar post to this, that i just replied to.
we have some pictures of a customers honda on our website that you might want to take a look at. he ran his setup pretty cleanly with the compressor on the drivers side.

im really curious on benefits and reasons for each. either way im getting a custom dp made. so anything to do with running into the oil return line/fitting or filter placement or fmic piping would be helpful on how to mount it.

I can see the benefits of the compressor on the pass. side without the fmic and an air - liquid. Quite true with it on the driver side with a fmic. If you move the turbo too far away from the exhaust pool you might experience more lag, however if your turbo set-up has that big of a snail the lag wouldn't mean dick when you finally got boost (I'm talking about the pic of course). Then you gotta find traction though.
