Turbo LS running rough. Any ideas??
alright guys I'm pretty stumped about this.
I helped my buddy put together a Turbo set up on his LS. Took it int to get tuned this afternoon. The tune went fine. It was just a street tune. Have it tuned to 10lbs. I kept an eye on the wide band the whole time while the guy was tunning. Under boost the AF ratio was about 11.5-11.8. Looked pretty good to me. didn't have any problems.
On the way home. We did a quick test rip on the freeway entrance. Did a 2nd and 3rd gear pull. Went great. went on the freeway and just cruise for about 5 min then got off the exit to go towards my house. When we stopped at the light. The car started running rough. Started sounding like a WRX with exhaust.
Checked the charge pipes, checked the oil lines, check the injectors, wiring and such. everything is fine. Other then a leaky oil drain line. Plugs look okay, but they're old. Forgo to change them before the tune.
But as of now it starts and runs. Its a little rough. Sounds like a WRX.
Anybody have any idea what it can be? I'm going to wake up and do a compression test on it tomorow.
the set up is:
Stock LS with 120k
RLD ramhorn manifold
Precision SC60 (.48/.60)
3" downpipe
Tial 38mm
DSM 450 black top
JRC 8" intercooler
Custom charge pipes
Tuned with Crome Pro

take 5 min and do a compression test. unfortunately when your car idles rough and sounds like that, its likely youve lost a cylinder...

my b16 sounded like that when i killed the ringlands. i took the block apart and THREE pistons had broken ringlands, not just one as i had suspected.

Post up the timing sheets and AFR plots (if possible).
If it sounds like a WRX something bad has happened. Change out the plugs, but you'll probably find a dead cylinder instead.

all 4 cylinder are firing and running. I checked them all.
Did a compression test today. The gauge I had was fucked up. It would not hold the pressure. It keeps on bouncing up then dropping right back down. But looks like the ring or ringlands in cylinder 1 and 4 is gone. Cause during the compression test, even with the shitty gauge, cyl 2 and 3 spiked upto 150-160 then dropped, while cyl 1 and 4 only went to 50-60. I'm gonna try to find another tester and try again.
But looks like its time for me to build a built block for him.
