Turbo ITR -- thicker gasket & more boost vs. stock CR
Drag III kit on a 97 ITR,
0.3 bar Tial, J&S, AVC-R, Hondata ...
As much as I'd like to see what a "stock" (admittedly 100,000 mile) ITR motor would do under light to moderate amounts of boost (4-6 psi), I'd feel much safer with a thicker "turbo" headgasket .... so that I could run 91 octane in Cali, while still having a cushion to run a little more boost (with the right type of fuel).
Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
Steve -- looks like it will be some time in the beginning of April, at my present rate.
Thanks, Ed

its been done around here for the longest time. I have seen two type R wiht this setup with hks gasket and they have not had an issue as of yet running 7psi stock daily. 93 octane though.

Thanks guys.
There's no doubt that the headgasket is a big plus!
But, ... the engineer in me ... would like to see what it would be like to drive w/boost on a 10.6 : 1 CR motor.
P.S. I do hate having to fix things that go "boom" ... though!

Re: Turbo ITR -- thicker gasket & more boost vs. stock CR (zygspeed)
I have the HKS headgasket and it lets me run 8-10psi without any issues. Its been on the car for over 2.5 yrs without any major problems. But I do think it would be impressive to run low boost with the high compression, as long as the tuning is good.

And which Octane gas?
And yes, ... I too think it would be impressive to run low boost on a well tuned stock motor. Ed

Re: Turbo ITR -- thicker gasket & more boost vs. stock CR (zygspeed)
I dyno'd around 240whp with 8.5-9psi on 93 octane. The only thing is that I'm not really sure what my compression is with the headgasket. The shop that installed it said it would drop compression to about 9.5:1 but when I use some online compression calculators I get 9:1...

Crazy Ed,
What are you doing in Cali when you live in VA??

Initially in Speedpak's hybrid civic, but lately in my 97 ITR *** turbo.
In ordet to pull this off with a C5 (in Cali), I'm sure I'd need to have a headgasket to run 91 RON gas.
However, ... if I stay where there's plenty of 93 and 94 octane, then I'll be happy with low boost on the stock 100K motor
(and have Steve build me a nice one if he's still got that other block).

I've seen A Type R w/ an Inline pro Head gasket run in Virginia. It was running 12's I believe and drove it there. I was impressed. I'll see if i can scrap up some pics of it.

I doubt ed is concerned with running on the drag strip, he is more into road racing.

.... there's nothing like a nice drive in the country (either on the highway or on the track).
Though I do have to admit to not holding the loud pedal down the whole time while @ VIR.

holy ****......a thread where people actually approve of using a thicker headgasket.
inlinepro had a daily driven, full interior type r run 11.90's w/a headgasket 2-3 years ago. give them a call. 703-644-1788
