turbo h22a with aem ems = lots of problems, please look, help.
Hi, I'm posting for a friend on aem forum. He's seems to not get any answers from the aem forum at this point. He's got a built motor with the AEM computer. His problem is idles is very crappy and surges alot with constant exhaust pops. when he tries to drive the car, it hessitate, exhaust pops, car bogs and kicks back. The only thing he did to the car is rewired his ckp and tdc sensor to the distributor, which is an OBDI prelude distributor. Does anyone know anything about this?

first of all, do you have a wideband? thats the most important. try taking out some ignition of the idle, sometimes it likes to pop near stoich.

The car needs tuned. That is not a stupid comment. The base map is enough to get the car running then you have to tune it. If its rich at idle lean it out. if too much timing fix it.

sorry, but a comment like "get it tune" is just the most stupid comment i think anyone can post just to get on the board. everyone knows fine tuning is necessary. the problem is he's trying to find out what cause this. this problem wasn't there before. it was also drivable, but now with this problem, it's not drivable.

the hesitation is an easy fix. If i'm not mistaken it was the dtp function that corrected it. Also check out the accell/decell functions.
All of this has been covered on the aem forums for the LONGEST time. He needs to READ the posts. There are no generic values we can give you to put into the EMS or else there would be perfect maps out already. The basemap runs REALLLLLLLLLLY rich at certain points....I was getting 16 MPG with it.
