Default Turbo fitment problems....Sits right on drain bolt...

I shaved the block as much as I could, but the compressor still sits right on the coolant drain bolt(?). It's as tight as it can be against the AC line and right up on the bolt. What can I do to fix this, or how big of a problem can it end up being if I left it like that?

Here's an engine bay shot:

Here's a shot of the snail on a MaxRev Mani:

I don't get it...where is it hitting? You should post a pic of it on the motor?

I'll try and take a pic of the turbo and manifold on the motor tonight, but it's a tough angle to get a clear shot.

itr206: It looks like you don't have A/C though, so you get the benefit of plenty of work space.

what does the ac have to do with it ? even if i did have it , it was no where close to the coolant plug?
shaving the block should not matter if you have ac or not

Ugh, I dunno but the compressor is like sandwiched between the AC line and the bolt tight as hell. I'm still new to this - doing the whole install on my own with nobody live and in person to help me so I don't even have a second opinion from someone else who seen this firsthand.

So you're saying you didn't have shave the block at all? I had to do quite a bit of cutting to even get the turbo next to the manifold. I dunno dude, maybe I'm not seeing something that a n00b in the darkside would notice? Possibly those pictures tonight could help things out once I get home.

I understand that you live 'Right Over There', but where the hell is there? Maybe you can tell us where you live and somebody in the area, might be able to help.

I don't think you clocked your turbo right.

The bolts are loose in that pic so it isn't really clocked there. The way I had it was pointed basically straight down running pretty much parallel to the A/C line. What I tried to do even before I put it on the car was mount it so that it'd be parallel to the manifold and basically point straight down.

I agree it may be something with the way it's clocked, and I'll play with that as much as I can when I get home, but the diameter of the compressor it still pretty big and it takes up like the whole space between the A/C line and that bolt.

I can't wait to find out what knuckleheaded thing I did or didn't do so I smack myself.

I have the same kit on my car, all I had to shave was the little tab on the block so I could run a filter. The turbo bolted right up without any shaving required. The AC line, you are going to have to take loose at the top and get some zip ties and pull the lines away from the manifold at the bottom. It will all fit just keep playing with it.

Here's some pics of me trying to hold the turbo up to the manifold and operate the camera at the same time. I'm wondering how much more of the block am I going to have to shave. Any MaxRev guys out there go thru this?

how does it fit when the turbo is fastened to the mani with all 4 bolts? try that, then try "clocking" the comp

Yes, bolting all 4 bolts from turbo to the manifold looks like it would give u more room on the block side.

I'm running the max-rev setup with the garret t3/04e 60 trim , .63 ar and didn't have to do any block shaving. The manifold was great. Let me know if some pics would be helpful. I can take some tomorrow.

edit: grammer

really? 93lsivic had to do a bit of block shaving and I had to do quite a bit on my b16. I wonder what the differences are.

I'd love to see some pics if you don't mind.

Well right now the bolts are loose on both the compressor and turbine side so it's spinning freely to give me the best angle I can get. With the turbo bolted to the manifold I can only get the "turbine side" of the manifold on the head, while the "compressor side" will barely get on the stud but no way in hell wants to go completely on. I may just remove A/C for the winter and deal with this problem in the summer after everything is up and running again...but then again I just got out of bed at 3AM and decided to check HT...i'm going to back to sleep.

You have a b18b right? Maybe there is a difference in the clearance btw a b18b and b18c. I think most of those with no clearance problems have a b18c? I would do a test fit on my b18b but I'm still waiting for the turbocharger Keep us up to date on what happens

Here are my pics (MaxRev Mani on B18B1 with T3/TO4e .60 A/R Housing).

I have NO Clearence problems at all after "Clocking" turbo properly. It "appears" you've got a larger housing (not sure but just looking at pics only), your turbo it needs to face opposite..... This would mean NO A/C !!!
