TURBO FIRST TIMER

TURBO FIRST TIMER
I want to know if i can run a turbo on my 1995 civic with D16z6. It is an auto, and i dont have the knowledge or the time or money for a swap or manual conversion, and besides the D16z6 is fresh rebuilt.
1. My goal is simple... 150 WHP!!!
2. If i buy an ebay turbo kit will it work if i make sure to get a cast manifold, and possibly get a better turbo used for when the kit turbo dies?
3.My car is OBD1 if i install the turbo kit with my friends over the weekend is it possible for a local tuner to tune it or will they not want to touch it because its automatic?
4. my budget is 2,000$
5. Please respond
6.Thank you

1. Yes
2. Yes, but you'll have to probably make some pipes fit and bend yourself.
3. Sure
4. Ok.
5. Done.
6. You're welcome.
Why turbo an automatic though.. Your car is going to shift before you even build boost...unless you STOMP the pedal EVERYWHERE YOU GO. For 2,000 You could almost swap a better engine/manual tranny in and get more than your 150hp goal.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
Yea a B18 non-vtec engine can be had fairly cheap. We have pull it yourself junk yards here and I see them all the time with 120k miles on them for 140$
You wouldnt need much to swap it in your car and would be close to your goals and even go over with small upgrades.

You could literally google your question and find the answer...Seems lazy to post it here. You're basically asking us to use google for you :D
Outside of personal experience/ knowledge we find the answer to your question the same way you could...Using google. I assure you that you could google your question any number of ways and find an answer.

Ebay turbo kit will be a waste of money. You can’t properly turbo and tune the car for $2000 unless you have some good connections and can fab everything yourself. And it will be a waste anyway with an auto.
Put that $2000 towards a B series manual swap and call it a day.

First things first, i am not capable of doing an ENGINE swap myself. I live in Maryland and have also called garages in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina, West Virginia. Guess what?? Not a single garage wil give me a B series swap for less than 7,000 DOLLARS!!!! All you guys talking about how cheap swaps are must be geniuses and able to do them all on your own. Im calling the cheap B series swap a lie. I have contacted countless tuners garages on the east coast.
And for chevellegod, i have googled this i have googled and googled and you know i am tired of reading stale old crap from 2006 or what have you. I already knew when i came on here some guy (which turned out to be you) would tell me to google for my question. I have and now i am here to discuss it with like minded honda enthusiasts but instead i have you calling me lazy and just generally acting as if you are better. Please stay out of my thread you are not offering any positive information, you are just being a douche, and i bet i had my honda when you were in elementary school.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
Yeah, turbo in an auto is never a good idea. Can it be done? Yes. Can you do it 2k and under? Yes. I'm WELL under 2k on my z6 project and it includes name brand, reliable internals.
I did run into several headaches with the "cheaper" turbo kit, but if you have the tools, patience, and knowledge, these are easily overcome. I had to do some cutting, welding, grinding, lots of cussing; but, the kit was installed. I killed my B7 with it, but it just prompted me to move faster building the Z6.
Now.. I have invested WELL over 2k in my entire setup, but, your question was not about that. 2k is doable, ebay kits WILL require extra work.

I still think is you need to locate an engine to a scrap yard even a b18 non vtec(and a b trans swap.you need a list of what need to be swaped) or a car with any d16 d15 d14 d13 with manual transmition to get the trans.
After that find someone that can take it out for you or ask your scrapyard if they can remove it for a fee.
D16 is a good plaform and Z6 is the best D out there.
You could allways make a custom turbo kit first on your auto using used turbocharger from an EVO (look at my build thread)
and trust me from there you WILL want more power your auto can handle and will eventually spend the time to locate a manual trans.
The time you get the new trans you should have more money to get a clutch that can handle the power at the same time and maybe some synchros the new trans might need.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
7,000? You're getting raped 7 ways from Sunday. Most shops charge 800-1500 for the swap and a motor can be had from legit importers for 1500-3000 depending on what you're looking for. You can buy an LS block for 800. Check local junkyards around you. Pretty much anything is a better idea and will get you closer to your goal then turboing your automatic.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
OP from reading your various posts so far, I think the only way for you to reach your goal is to sell your car and get something else that already has 150hp.
This is classic though.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
If you really want to though, go ahead, it's your car. Don't let a bunch of people on the internet tell you otherwise. (Although you chose to come here for opinions.) Get some help to get a b18b1 motor and you should be good.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
Thanks for the responses from everyone. The reason i wanted to stick with this honda is because i bought it when i was 18 in 2003. the car has been with me through thick and thin and it even saved my life once. I was shot at by some savages and that car got me outta there!!! I will love it forever. It is like a guardian angel to me.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
So much sentiment. All the more reason you should throw a B series motor in it and give it new life, since it saved yours. It’s only right. Believe me, you’ll enjoy it.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
Keep the car, but $7000 for a motor swap is crazy. Here I did you a favor: https://www.hmotorsonline.com
Take a look at the link above: You can see that an entire b16 complete changeover is $2500 and a GSR complete change over is $3100. Now if you and your friends can do an install cool, if not I can't see a shop charging you more than maybe $500 to $800 to swap everything over.
Now this is more than it would cost to find someone that has a swap for sale but if you are looking at picking up a phone and dialing a number for the easiest solution, there you go.

Re: TURBO FIRST TIMER
Az_civic Thank you for the H motors link. I was reading some reviews online that others who have used them said. they look pricey but they do have some clean looking engines, and they seem more reputable than other online sellers. Thanks for helping me out, and thanks to everyone else who replied as well. When i get it together ill put up pics.
