Turbo D-Series Guys, sleeve and bore questions
I like to plan ahead for all the parts and estimated prices when I go into a new project, so I've been looking over parts and such, as I'm going to try and tap into the 500's on C16 when I get the setup done. This will be a street driven setup, so keep that in mind.
At what point are the stock sleeves failing? Also, how much can the bore be increased safely on a D16? I'd like to sleeve the engine before hand so that I can have as much of an advantage as I can with such small bore to begin with and while I'm getting pistons and rods installed, sleeves and a larger bore would help.
Thanks in advance!

d-series stock sleeves are very reliable... for a daily driven 300-4XX whp car I think stock sleeves would hold just fine. but piece of mind always comes into play... because not a lot of people have done it... there is still some speculation on how much they will hold. I've personally seen a 442whp single daily driven on C16 with stock sleeves hold up for over 2 years and still running strong. (this is this guys daily driver, He has two other twin-turbo porsches putting over 900whp each, but just likes to go fast) he will rip on this car almost everytime I see him and it still runs liek new. So stock sleeves CAN hold up but unless you've got money liek this guy, to either put C16 in it everyday, or rebuild it within a weekend if somethign were to happen, then it's all about piece of mind. sure they can hold up but what if they don't, there goes the project... I would say just sleeve the block that way there is one less thing you have to worry about.

How much can the cylinder's be safely bored with the sleeves on there? The stock bore is what... 76mm? Is it possible to go to 78mm or is the 76 already as large as I'd want to go?

You can make in the 500whp range with stock D sleeves, but if you're going to be daily driving with that much power it would be wise to look into aftermarket sleeves for added reliability.

Re: (2LiterTurboSeR)
stock is 75mm. stock sleeves under boost don't go over 75.5, you want all the meat in the sleeves you can get. With good sleeves and boost 78mm is fine.

if you looking for reliable daily 500whp. i would look into sleeves. i run the Benson Y8 sleeves
75mm is stock bore, with sleeves you can run 78 or so...
platinum.
