Icon7 SpeedFactory 2010 Sleeved/Forged D16 build

After years of pushing the limits of stock sleeves and the Vitara pistons, I've finally stepped away from the Vitara builds, and we are currently building a sleeved/forged D16 this year.

Having most of my last setup stolen last year was a major setback, but made us even more determined to rebuild it better than ever. A huge thanks to the following companies for sponsoring this build and providing high quality, proven race parts to help us achieve our goal of running 9's in our SFWD setup turbo D16:

Main sponsors:

Arias Pistons
Bisimoto Engineering
Competition Clutch
Golden Eagle MFG
HRTuning

Supporting sponsors:

T1 Race Development

We are hoping for mid 9's at 150+mph with this build, and plan to have it completed over the next few weeks in time to run it at the IFO event up here at Pacific Raceways on June 27th.

A pic of the car from early last year:

James looks good!

about 3 months ago ETS tested the billet 6765 with that divided t4 housing and it didnt do any better...it spooled slower and made less power...their evo X made more power on the single scroll 6765...just thought id throw that out there....

~8.7-8.8:1 c/r with this block/head combo.

Thanks Myles. Got a link to the testing info? Interested to read it. What a/r housings were compared, divided manifold or not, etc.? Not that it matters much - this isn't an evo, and our testing says otherwise. I'd still like to see the info though.

Cant wate to see it done. Love the swiming pools you guys have in your pistons. Low comp for the win! Do you guys have any shots of the underside/baffeling you did for the breather on the vc?

Thanks. There is actually nothing to see on the underside of the valvecover, the breather channel draws from above the factory baffling that is already there, it works perfectly and no oil gets pushed up there.

Plenty of people have done the D2B before without an adapter plate, with various small differences in execution. The D2B is a very important part of this build, so I tried to document how we did it well. We also had several vital components made to help others do this safely and with relative ease. The following stock B-series parts are used:

shift linkage
rear t-bracket
tranny mount and rear mount
starter
intermediate shaft
axles
clutch

We had Competition Clutch make B-series flywheels that are drilled for D-series cranks. They now have this available as Part no: 2-694D-ST

With this you can use any standard B-series clutch!

I really needed a twin disc for this build though, and once again Competition Clutch came through with a B-series twin disc kit w/the flywheel drilled for a D-series crank as well! This is available as Part no: 4-8026-D

Here's some pics/explanation of how we did it and what it takes to bolt the engine to the tranny. More to come later.

Doing the D2B like this shifts the engine 1" closer to the passenger side of the engine bay. So we had this custom billet drivers side engine mount designed to make up for that.

No there isnt a link...i was there talking to them right after they got off the dyno, telling me how much that housing sucked ...they thought the car had a boost leak and what not so they went back and tested everything and threw the old turbo on and boom made the same power no issues...

Yes, finally! Can't wait to see this car in action again, especially after everything that plagued it last year.

Great work with the D2B conversion and twin disc it should help tremendously, especially with the increased power goal.

I want to be there when you get this thing on the dyno.

nice build, you guys inspire me to do a turbo D, especially with the times your hitting

questions,
how far is the pistons sitting in the hole?
after doing the D2B conv. does the engine sit the normal way? was there any issues with the alignment/breaking of the axles? i plan on trying this myself

The trans looks good James guess when I go to a hydro Ill have to weld it up as well we will see how my way holds up next week. And the axles should be fine since the trans is in the same location as it would be in a B swap.
