Default turbo b16 put together but having problems

i just peiced together a turbo setup on my b16 and every thing is good and i know i need to get it tuned and such but i was wondering if this is normal. when i drive it and build boost it gets to about 5 or 6k rpm and starts to break up and if i continue to floor it , it will just break up and not go any higher in rpm even though boost gauge reads like 8 or 9 psi while its breaking up. is this normal for not being tuned? or am i having a problem

Are you running any sort of base map ? I would try to stay out of boost until you get it tuned, sounds like your breaking up due to a fuel or ignition problem, which is never good.
