Default Tiny WG spring

I have a precision 46mm WG right now with a 6lb spring in it (I believe). My manifold creeps a bit, and I'm running about 9 lbs of boost because of it in first/second gear.

Problem is that at that psi with my turbo (5857) in my 07 civic si, I'm blowing up the tires with barely any throttle.

My WG came with a 1.5lb and 3lb spring that I'm thinking of using. Ideally I'd like to use the 1.5lb since I'm using a 4 port bbg solenoid and that will allow me to run 14 lbs off of a 1.5 lb spring, and the 1.5 lb will creep a little. I'd like to run as little boost in 1st as possible.

My only concern is that the 1.5 lb spring will be so weak that the gate will crack open a little accidentally and slow my spool time. Has anyone used a spring that small?

Thanks

Too small of a wg spring and you may wind up maxing out your boost controller much less boost than you hoped for. Start with the 3psi spring I think youll have traction in 1st, assuming it still doesnt creep to 9.

The problem with going with a 3lb spring is that if it creeps to, say, just 5 lbs, that will blow up 1st/2nd still. It'd be better, but I want as low as I can go. I'm not worried about maxing out the solenoid because my tuner has been experimenting with the 4 ports and they have an insanely wide range of controllable boost levels. I'm only worried that even the solenoid won't prevent the gate from cracking if the spring is that small

Honestly, your going to blow away first gear with any amount of boost really - You can do it NA. I dont think you will have any problem keeping the wg shut with an ebc on the top port of the wastegate. 100% of the boost pressure will be on the top of the diapgram keeping it closed until target pressure is reached. Its something you will have to experiment with but bring all your springs with you to the tuners.

Problem with my WG placement is that it's really time consuming to swap out springs. I'd have to pay the $500 tuning fee regardless if my car gets tuned or not if I have to swap out a spring part way through tuning. But you don't think the gate will creep with a 1.5lb spring using an EBC? If so, I may go that route

Yes it will probably creep bc thats due to manifold design. But it wont creep as much - hopefully. Road test the 1.5 spring before the tuner and see how much it creeps.

Yeah, I know it will creep, I'm not worried about that. I just don't want the gate to open up when the solenoid is trying to keep it shut and cause it to build up boost slower

I have always noticed a softer wastegate spring causes boost to come on slower. I don't believe there is any reason to go lower than a 3 lb spring.
