Timing settings under full boost?
I am curious what turbo race engines are running for total ignition timing under full boost. I have been very conservative and have kept mine set at 12 deg. BTDC. My specs are below:
1.6 SOHC V-TEC d-series
Turbonetics 60-1 hi-fi compressor
TO4 exh. housing with a stage 5 wheel, .50 A/R
100 hp ZEX nitrous
19 PSI boost
VP-C23 race fuel
FAST ecu w/ wide band
FAST data logger
Made 418 WHP at 6800 and 375 TQ. at 6400
In my 2280 lb CRX I have run a best of 10.88 at 132.5 mph
The reason I am asking is to see if other racers have been safely using timing that is higher than what I am using. I have not torn up any parts, but I am curious if I can safely bump up the timing a little.
Thanks,
ZEX Man

nice numbers for the SOHC!
Most people set theirs to run around .50-.75 degrees of retard per PSI of boost...so at 19 on that system you'd be at....just slightly more than you are now, around 14.25 retard

Yo man give us all the internall spec of that sick sohc slammer! Do you have dyno sheets also?
That is some sick hp and 1/4 mile times.

Nothing too trick to it.....just lots of boost and nitrous. The internals are:
unported D16Z6 head w/stock valves
unported D16Z6 intake manifold and stock throttle body
ZEX 912 valve springs w/stock retainers
ZEX 59300 camshaft
ARP head studs
Darton sleeved block
JE 9-1 pistons
Crower rods
stock bearings, crank, oil pump, pan
Turbonetics cast manifold with a custom T4 flange welded on
Spearco ice water/air intercooler
I have the dyno runs in numerical format only, no pretty graphs...sorry!

nice numbers man.
But, why do you guys seem astounded by his numbers and 1/4 mile times?
Not that you don't have a very nice expensive setup, and have done a good job with tuning, but I have seen plenty of SOHC that put up those kind of numbers.
You don't have to go B-series just to be fast. D-series has the potential to be faster than any of you guys will ever need to be.
Sorry for the run-on, just have lots of respect for SOHC owners who realize its potential instead of doubting it like everyone seems to. This isn't a bash on B-series, just sticking up for D-series peeps.

AMEN MY BROTHER!
yeah, I know this is going off topic but anyone who tells you not to waste your time on the D doesn't know **** about it.
I'm shooting for 300WHP with pistons rods and tuning this person has made over 400.
Props to the SOHC!

... and props to the D-beastie. Not that you need it with that timeslip and the grin you can't wipe off your face.
