Default Timing Question for the well educated?

hey guys, i'm gettin ready to put my motor back in & plan to turn the boost up a little more this season. I'm kinda curious, when some of you are hittin 20psi on your t3/t4's what kinda timing are you running in that range.

Are you still sticking with the rule of thumb (.75 retard per pound of boost) or are you doing something different.

I probably won't make it to a dyno for another month or so, i've got a wideband & egt installed so i'll be doing some street tuning (crome pro) & driving before i make it out to the dyno. Just lookin for soem tips.

any help would be appreciated. TIA

that sounds like a pretty good idea. you can go with no retard for 1-2psi or so and then step in the retard (.5*/psi for example) until you are at .75-1*/psi once you get up around 20psi. you can try one of the homemade detonation detectors (microphone, or a tube bolted to the engine) if you want to tune on the street, it might be a good idea to have a passenger with you. you might be hard pressed to find someone who will 'give you' some timing values for a similar setup here's a thread relating to this:

good luck. disclaimer i have yet to tune anything

Wait to get it to the dyno. 20psi untuned as far as timing goes is just asking for trouble.
