Well, do you need to re-tap any of the oilpan bolt holes?

I was under the impression that a tap wrench was a wrench used for tapping new threads.

A tap wrench is used to hold a tap. The tap is what does the cutting. You can use a tap to retap a hole if the threads are messed up, or the main use of a tap is cutting threads in a hole that has just been drilled. When people say they tapped there oil pan they usually mean for the oil return line in which they screw in a fitting to recieve the oil line.

It all depends on what you want. Tap wrenches come in all differant sizes. The taps also come in every thread size you can think of. For one tap handle and one tap maybe $10- $20. Just make sure the tap you buy fits the handle or vise versa. You might be able to find a set of taps and dies for a good price say $50-$80. They come with all metric or all standard taps and dies including handles.

I get it now, thanks for the info guys...learning more all the time from this place. I guess i don't need the taps or the wrench then, just need to drill my holes for the oil return flange right? (yeah, i know, i should get it welded)
