Default Taking a rod trip in a turbo car

Is there anything I should do or not do? I am going 260 miles each way? What precautions should I take?

get a radar detector, check your oil and coolant levels, and do a thorough check for leaks of any fluids. aside from that don't sweat it.

Kinda interested in this one too, I run the http://roadtonopi.com tour, and I drive about 1100 miles one way. Is there any extra tips for driving that far? Higher weight oil or something?

EDIT: Bad link

i would switch to a heavier oil. i took an 800 mile roundtrip road trip once and burned almost 2 quarts using 5w30. i dont have any leaks either.

anyways, i've since switched to 10w30, and right now i'm actually running 15w50.

oh..and do those checks that dbman suggested.

Yeah, you will be fine. Just check for leaks (oil, vacuum, etc) as you would do for any short trip. Carry an extra quart of oil with you, and you should be fine.

Just don't boost all 260 miles! Hehe. Do you have an EGT? That would tell you a good cruising temp to keep it at if you're going on a highway for a long time.

Check the condition of your coolant hoses and alternator belt and get some extra if they seem iffy. If either of those go, your'e stranded.

Get extra oil and a bottle of antifreeze. stay away from unfamilar fuel stations. stay with the bigger names, like Sunoco, Amoco, Mobil dont fill up at a filling station if U see the gas truck dumping fuel. Get a receipt for all the fuel u purchase, its proof that U purchased their fuel if the fuel is bad.

Thanks for the replies guys. No EGT gauge as of yet. Maybe I should get one real quick and toss it in? 260 is a lot for me considering I hardley ever go further then 10-20 miles from my house.

when i go on trips like that, the turbo timer stays on for like 5 minutes. i was racing a tiberon 6spd v6 thought. they ******* haul ***!!

edit: timer adds time when you boost and how long your motor has been running

Tiburon V6:

0-60.....................7.1 sec
1/4 mile..............15.6 sec

Tiburons emphatically do NOT ******* haul ***.

Yeah, they definitly don't....I've seen slower numbers; comparable to my LS Integra.

dont forget to buy a few bottles of octane booster to give your engine that little boost for those long trips.

well that was when my turbo was spilling out oil, so maybe that is why it seamed so much faster.
