Streetable turbo exhaust
Well i destroyed my apexi exhaust today on a manhole and im only a couple months from my setup to be done.
So what do i do?
I dont want to buy a replacement exhaust now and then a 3inch exhaust in just a couple months.
Ive never really shopped too much for a exhaust and especially a turbo exhaust.
I plan on getting the 3inch pipe locally and having it cut and bent and then putting a muffler on it. Is there one that has a good sound to it like the apexi?
This is what it looked like before...I will post an after in the morning after some daylight. I want to get an exhaust that looks similar and good for turbo. price range is around 300 for the muffler. Does that sound feasible?

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
there are a lot of variables that would affect the route that you should go...
what's the turbo setup?
is 3" a must?
3" exhaust is going to sound on the harsh side for the street
I'm running a 2.75" and it looks and sounds like factory...
it all depends on what you want/need for your setup
need more details...

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
I've gone thru a few different setups and the quietest one was 3" mandrel bent pipe to a magnaflow muffler. I expected to use a resonator in between the piping, but I didnt need it. N1 style mufflers always tended to be loud on my car even a long resonator.

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
well from my understanding (still not boosted but SOON)
the turbo will act like a resonator
so if your like me and not boosted yet pick up a resonator and replace it with pipe once boosted
that way your not running around town sounding like a pissed off bee hive
funny that you mentioned magnaflow
I have a dynomax cat and resonator and a magnaflow muffler
sounds great
looks factory

I personally, aswell as many locals, several of my friends, and all local shops, recommend and use Vibrant Mufflers on their customer cars and personal cars.
I did experience a big louder tone after the muffler was installed a day or so after the install but nothing crucial.
I've personally used 3in vibrants on my turbo setups and 2.5inch vibrants on my NA setups. I've owned 4 different Vibrants on 4 different setups and they all sounded good. Nice and deep.

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
I have the apexi n1 right now and it is just right on the sound scale. Its not loud but louder than stock....I have my resigantor and there is no rasp at all.
So when its time to drop in the other setup..Do i leave the resignator?
As for is 3in applicable for me? Im hav a similar setup right now to my friend who made 535whp on c16 (455ish on pump)
Im expecting similiar numbers, except im not tuning on race gas, im sure 3 inch would be a good selection.
I will delete the vid if this is against the rules so let me know stay or go.
He was using the magnaflow muffler i believe..can anyone tell by hearing?

a vid on the shitty local 1/8th
I like it..I just wanted to see what my other options were and not wanting to get an exhaust that will make me look like the local ricer but im afraid that no matter exhaust i put on there now that is turbo ready w/o turbo...it will sound terribly loud
Ive also been refered this one since ive already had one (not the turbo one) and liked it i was leaning torwards it.

Pics took of the damage.Waiting on gf to get off work so i can use her laptop....my laptop dont have ther camera software on it.

Leave the resonator, it will take the raspy sound away.

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
yea 95jeremie i got lucky and its only screwed form the resonator back pretty much inched to 1.5in in 2 spots. resonator is still good thankfully
Im prob. going with the magnoflow muffer since i already know what it sounds like and not take a chance on dropping a couple hundred on another apexi muffler and have it loud as shat.

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
magnaflow 3" straight through and the kteller piping weld up kits. its like only a little over 300 bucks total and it works and sounds very good. currently using it on my car and a friends car i did a turbo setup on. im also gonna go with a magnaflow muffler on my high compression n/a daily driver motor.

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
I have a huge 22" Magnaflow muffler with a divided core to put on the car, but after I found out how much the turbo affected the sound, I think that giant muffler might be overkill and I can do an 18" and save myself the weight/packaging issues.

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
why not take it to a shop and have it welded up and fixed? It shouldn't cost more than a new exhaust.
Also have you thought about installing a e-cutout and keeping your current exhaust?

Re: Streetable turbo exhaust
Yes, I did. But I also read the posts about them getting louder over time. You must have missed those. Getting loud isn't a quality that's good for a street car IMO.
