Is there such thing as a quiet 3" exhaust?? TURBO SETUP??
I'm in the process of building a turbo setup for my EK hatch with GSR swap. Currently I have an A'PEXi WS2 exhaust and I LOVE it becuase it isn't loud like most aftermarket exhausts. I'd keep it but I need to go with a 3" instead of 2.5" when I get the turbo done. Anyone have any suggestions on which exhaust would be good??

Just have a shop bend you a 3'' exhuast. hell, you could even keep the WS2 muffler if you really wanted it.
Turbo car normally aren't that loud to start with.

the WS2 isnt a true straight thru muffler. With turbo, you want to expel the exhaust with as little resistance as possible.
Having a shop custom bend you an exhaust will probably be more then just buying a kit.
Not too many shops have mandrel bending machines either. Crush bending is useless for a performance as they bend a 3" pipe to a 2.5" which defeats the purpose of having 3".

Call around, there are quite a few mom and pop type shops that do great work for good prices.
I understand it's different depending on the location, but there has got to be someone near you with a mandrel bender.

The other option is buying mandrel bends, this site has decent prices and a B stock list they email every week if you can live with odd length legs, slightly misshapen pieces now and then, etc. http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog/
Then just cut and weld it together. Nobody around where I live has a mandrel bender.

i gave you a link for a kit for purchase. then u can find whatever muffler and res u want. If you want quiet, vibrant stealth or magnaflow is pretty quiet untill you put your foot in it.
if you are referring to over priced name brand bullshit kits, im quite sure they dont make 3".
These exhaust kits are over priced and brainwashed kids across america thinking they make power. Truth is, just like intakes, a metal tube is a metal tube no matter who's name is on it.

If he were to keep it, then the small diameter of the muffler will be a restriction thus making the whole exhaust equal to the size of the restriction size. So if he were to be running 3" to the muffler, then the muffler is 2.25", then the whole exhaust will perform like a 2.25" thus making the 3" useless. Just like crush bending.. useless for performance.

All I said is, HE CAN KEEP IT IF HE WANTED TO. What is so hard to understand about that?
Never did I say he should, an it would help with anything.
I couldn't give a **** less if it hurts performance.

What is your definition of loud? Lol
I have a thermal 3" cat back w/high flow cat and I don't think it's too bad.

KTeller sells just a piping kit and I have heard they have good fitment. That's the main difference in different brands, just how the pipes are bent and where so that they tuck up under the car nice and it all fits. http://store.kteller.com/store/produ...616&make=HONDA
There is actually less restriction from having a 3" inch exhaust and a 2.5" muffler than a full 2.5" exhaust and 2.5" muffler. Of course the muffler is probably going to be the main restriction in the system. There is a certain amount any given size of pipe can flow while maintaining linear flow (as opposed to laminar flow, characterized by turbulence) and it depends on the cross sectional area, the smoothness, and length. Bends have a certain level of restriction also. I can't remember the exact formulas or values since it was a hydraulics and pneumatics class I took. However, the rate of flow is how they rate intercoolers and probably how they come up with their horsepower increases for exhaust systems. My point though, is restriction isn't just in the muffler, it's the diameter of the pipe and how many and how tight of bends the system has also.
