Vibrant mufflers, anybody else dissapointed?
So i grabbed a Vibrant flat black 3" about a year ago, the deciding factor was the SS canister and SS packing opposed to other mufflers using fiberglass packing that usually burns out and causes the muffler to get louder.
Well guess what, after only 1100miles the car is getting LOUDER! I am a little disappointed, has this happened to anybody else?
This is on a turbo B series at about 340whp on pump gas 91 octane.

Bump for this one. In for some answers.
I heard lots of good things about them. Not too loud compared to Thermal.
But I have yet to hear reviews on them long-term wise.
Im waiting for my stealth streetpower 3" in/out single muffler in the mail..
$100 shipped through THmotorsports.

I have a flat black stealth series on mine, 3 inch in and dual tip oulet for that oversize stock muffler look... only like couple hundred miles on it so far and I love it. Nice and quiet, low key looking as well. Full 3" all the way back no resonators or cat.
Sucks yours is getting louder now all of a sudden, hope mine does not. So far so good though.

OP: Are you running cat/testpipe/resonators?
If you are running straight piping all the way from the downpipe, it will still be loud.
My streetpower stealth just came in today.
On the side of the box states "Limited 5 Year Warranty", maybe you can contact them.

i have probably used the vibrant flat black muffler on 30 different custom exhausts over the last few years. never once have we had any sort of a complaint. i have made 5 differnet K series all motor 3 inch exhausts using that muffler, amd even then there is no noise complaint. there have been 3-4 customers with those exhausts that had a special request to keep the car quiet, and then we use a resonator and everything is good to go.
what kind of tubing are you using on the exhaust its self?

Are you running your car VERy rich? Any muffler will get a little louder after enough soot has permiated the packing, be it fiberglass or stainless. The stainless just won't disintegrate like fiberglass can.

no, i have super low compression so i actually run fairly lean, around 12.5-12 a/f iirc, and that using 91 octane.

Re: Vibrant mufflers, anybody else dissapointed?
No probs with my downpipe back setup... It's straight 3" all the way back to the muffler. No cat, had it for about 10 months daily driving. The only probs I have with it is it rattles on the heat shield near the gas tank, but other than that it's awesome

Re: Vibrant mufflers, anybody else dissapointed?
We have installed a number of vibrant flat black mufflers. They seem to be a little louder then I'd like them to be on n/a cars, on turbo cars they sound great though because the turbo is acting like a second muffler. The resonator is going to have a lot to do with that raspy sound.

I don't mean in terms of turbocharged AFRs, I mean overall. Even 12.5:1 will cause soot buildup, especially w/o a cat installed. If you have your O2 disbaled & cat removed, anything richer than 14.5:1 during normal cruise/idle will contribute to soot as well.

Re: Vibrant mufflers, anybody else dissapointed?
I had a Vibrant 3' on my Integra for a little while, and it turned out to be a lot louder than my old Magnaflow 3" (5x8) muffler.
The very first week the car wasn't too loud, but it got a lot louder eventually so I swapped back to my old Magnaflow.
