lol oem fan doesnt come on til 200. but i agree, at speed the radiator should keep the temps below 200 without assistance from the fan. now i just have to get some air to the fan so that maybe the fan can take a break

lol oem fan doesnt come on til 200. now if i said i didnt mind 210* then you can kick me right in the nuts. but i agree, at speed the radiator should keep the temps below 200 without assistance from the fan. now i just have to get some air to the fan so that maybe the fan can take a break
actually it comes on at about 194. our switch sends its signal at 90 degrees Celcius

either way with the stock switch settings my temps reach about 200 (after the fan kicks on) before the fan brings it down.

hybridcivicls-t's switch is set to 185 as he mentioned earlier.

I plan to wrap my manifold and downpipe before full summer heat kicks in just to be sure i don't overheat.

stock thermostat starts to open at 79*C and full open at 94*C

174-194

I pulled a thermostat and tested it becuase I wanted to know exactly when it starts to move.

.
per Mugen, stock fan is at 93C or 199.4F. ive datalogged the same. so i dunno maybe some setups are different.

my fan comes on at 185 through s300 so i guess it really doesnt matter what the oem setting is anymore anyways

Most Spals are over 15A.

Assuming you don't have Hybrid's electrical issues, all you really need is a relay hooked to the rad fan connector, one wire to a +12vdc source (spal power), and one to ground (spal GND). In this case since its a relay feeding a relay, you don't need diodes since there's no complete solid-state circuit to feedback on when the coil collapses & spikes. Since Hybrid's setup runs the coil directly off two relatively sensitive switches, he needs the diodes to prevent harming them.

So for a working fan setup, it should be:

BLK/RED (rad fan connector) = 86
BLK (rad fan connector) = 85
user's 20A fused +12vdc = 30
user's wire to SPAL Red/+12vdc = 87
SPAL Black/GND = Chassic Ground

No diodes absolutely needed since the coil draws very little energy, and almost any spike would be w/in the stock relay's specs (far less than the stock fan itself). BTW the 20A supply doesn't have to be to switched +12v for this config, since the stock relay already is. Hybrid's bypasses it, thus his need.
got it confused myself thanks tho.

it simple. the numbers connect to the relay. if you can't understand it i would advise letting a professional do it.

A shroud is recommended for a pusher style setup also, correct?

the only thing with the shrouds is difference in radiator size, like how much you want it to stick out (mine is 1/2 inch) and where your downpipe is (mine melted very outside edge of plastic fan casing)

if i ever go with a boosted setup again i will definetly run this setup

I finally got around to installing my 12" spal with go autoworks radiator and shroud. It seems to have taken care of the hi temps I was experiencing with a dual core stock radiator and stock fan with shroud. Even the 12" spal moves some serious air!

figured Ide post in here instead of adding to the many running hot threads. My turbo crx with full-race half rad and 12 inch puller runs at high 190's all the time. Today being mid 80's and humid it ran around 202 the whole time (laptop+s300).
The stock gauge cluster temp sensor never goes above midway so Iam just curious if this is normal? I realize I have a tiny engine bay which adds to the problem. Also where would I purchase a thermostat that opens at like 160? And has anyone tried using water + water wetter instead of 50/50? thanks

water wetter earlier thermostat, is a band-aide. a good fan shourd combo cures most problems.

sounds like your kinda normal but a spal fan and shroud would do better.

yeah figured, a band-aide does help healing though haha. The F-R rad is smaller then all of your mishimoto/fluidyne/koyo's so I wonder if thats a problem. The 12 inch fan clears by millimeters on top and bottom. Barely enough room for any type of shroud.

So i just wired up my spal fan today, or i guess i should say that i attempted. Followed the diagram drawn up on here, connected the wires per the diagram to my spst relay, all seems easy enough. Using the oem fan wiring as the trigger for the fan on pole 85. The problem i'm having is the +12vdc fuse coming off my battery is blowing. Ive tried both a 20 amp and a 25 amp fuse. Im planning on redoing the fan ground tomorrow and maybe trying a 30 amp fuse although im pretty sure the 25 amp fuse should have been plenty. Any electrical guru's think of anything i should look into?

Ive checked over my wiring a couple times and all appears to be good. My +12vdc wire is 12 gauge wire and my ground is going straight to the frame on a clean ground. This doesnt make sense to me.
