Smoking Problem
Hi guys, I had a turbo problem about 11 months ago, the seals in the turbo got damaged and the turbo was shot. I put the car down for an entire year. it was smoking, I took the intercooler off and realized that it had oil, the throtle body and intake also had oil. I washed out everything and made it all squeaky clean again. Last week I installed a brand new turbo. I am sure there is oil in the head etc. When I started the car today, it smoked for a while then stopped now everytime I get in on the gas it will smoke, is thee a way of cleaning the head without taking it off the block? or should I just take it for a good run and try to burn of the oil? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated especially from you engine builders out there.

Re: Smoking Problem (trboCIVICWRX)
Well the smoke is white. I previously had a blown turbo, the intercooler, plumbing, the throttle body and intake all had oil. I washed them thoroughly before reassembly. what I am concerned about is the head, I know the head will have some there as well. the question is what to do about it? Should I just drive aroud and try to burn it off?

Re: Smoking Problem (siksivik)
Isnt it if its blue smoke then yu can attribute it to oil. And if white then collant problems.. I would recheck everything all over again. Maybe if juss let it idle for a while. Sitting out for a year is a long as time..

I would first double check that there isnt oil in the charge pipes or downpipe again to rule out the turbo. And if you didnt mess with the head gasket right? I wonder if something happened to the rings after not driving it for a year. My beater was not driven for a winter and in the spring it smoked badly and has ever since (ive been able to rule out everything but the rings).

Re: Smoking Problem (Muckman)
I installed a brand new turbo and I did clean all the charge pipes, intercooler, throttle body and intake mani, the only thing I didnt do is to take the head off. So everything is essentially brand new except the head.

Since there is a blue tinge to the smoke color, it is definitely oil. The problem is most likely in your cylinder head...valve seals, guides or both. The clue is the smoke at startup. That is from oil running down the valve stems and collecting in the combustion chamber when the engine is not running. You start it, it smokes hard and then goes away but comes back under hard use.
The only other thing I can think is if your pvc is pushing oil into the charge pipe. That should be checked also.
