Default SMIC vs FMIC

what are the pros and cons of the SMIC to the FMIC. i know that the FMIC are more effective at lowering the temps from the turbo. Im not sure which one to get for my turbo set-up. I want the FMIC for their effectiveness but i want SMIC cause its hidden. It it makes any difference, i have a 1st gen talon turbo and plan to upgrade to a big 16g turbo.

first we have to know your goals with this car i would say smic is good for 1-12 psi all day and a front mount is good for 1 to whatever its rated... dsm guys dont upgrade smic till about after 15psi and then u could always upgrade your smic i forgot what there called but there good for about 20 psi and will fit your pipes if u do go smic there really fat!!!

Psi has nothing to do with it, more or less how much whp is more important.

If you're after that whole stealth thing then I would just get a FMIC and not cut the grill on the bumper out. That and with the FMIC painted black you wont see anything

i dont know, so far im trying to reach 12's in my sol. i'm still torn on whether to get the "Intimidator" look or the "Sleeper" look. But i dont know if i want to sacrifice the extra hp for the SMIC

Oh, its a Del Sol. I say get the FMIC. It's easier to mount and run the pipes. Cars with SMIC have special wheel wells that hold them.

whats the hp loss for a smic vs. fmic? i am planning on running a smic w/ my integra setup. i will be custom mounting it, so it'll get good air flow. my setup will be using a t3 .42/.48 turbo, log mani, dsm 450's, 2.5 dp, turboedit.

thanx!

I ran a DSM SMIC for 6 months and recently upgraded to a front mount, my intake temps are so much cooler it's not even funny. Front mount all the way.

even if i get a direct flow of air? does it have to do with the difference in surface area of the smic vs. fmic? for cooling i mean.

thanx

u seem like your gonna have a nice set up and with that turbo i would for sure run a fmic also some sidemounts see 210 hp and are still good for a few more hp.........just like the eclipse there not as bad as some ppl make them out to be but check out hmt.com they have front mounts for 130 shipped (good deal) also if u have it mounted in a good spot(smic) they are very good they flow alot(more than some of them bull **** ebay front monuts.
