To sleeve or not to sleeve!

To sleeve or not to sleeve!
Hey all, my apologies if this has been covered (as i'm sure it has.)
I've had a LOT of different opinions about sleeving from different mechanics, and I just want a straight up answer!
I'm currently rebuilding my B18C-R with JE pistons/Eagle rods. When it's done I plan to tune it for 8 and 16PSI with a TD05-18G turbo. The turbo setup was run on the standard engine for about 4 months before it misfired, detonated and fried a piston ring.
I doubt it will make over 250kW at high boost once it's all tuned.
My question is - should I sleeve it? Money IS an issue, but if I really need to do it then I will. If I will still have a reliable engine without sleeving, then I won't do it.
Opinions? :D

Lots of people do fine at that power level on stock sleeves, but I'd sleeve it anyway for over 300 WHP, that's my personal cutoff. I like my stuff to last for years and have some margin for error.

Yeah I forgot to mention i'll probably upgrade the turbo next year..
rmcdaniels - Do those people that run stock sleeves ever have any troubles? I'm wanting a reliable setup, at least for a few years.

sleeving a block will not guarentee reliability. there are many variables in a turbo car. parts and tuning make a world of difference. 300-400whp on stock sleeves with a good tune will last you awhile.

Re: (reaction360)
I have compete faith in my tuner to do an excellent job of the tuning, so i'm not worried about that.
Talking in terms of miles, how long would a motor with stock sleeves running 250kW last? 60,000 (100,000 kms)? More? Less?
I mean if it's going to be nice and reliable for 100,000kms i'd be happy with running stock sleeves.
But yeah I know there are a million variables so I can't really know how long it's gonna last either way.

People that run stock sleeves have all kinds of problems, just like people that sleeve their blocks.
There's really no way to answer the question. With a good tune stock sleeves can last a while, or with Darton sleeves my boost controller can malfunction one night at test-n-tune at WOT in 4th and blow my **** up in a few seconds (although I did drive 80 miles home, it just smoked a lot).
Personally based on what I have seen I like to sleeve for over 300 WHP, but that's just my preference. No matter how good your tuner is, **** happens.
