SC61 to big???
Hey room wassup? Ive been hearing alot about an SC61 may be too much turbo for a b16a with 9.0 compression pistons and eagle rods .. im only looking to make about 300 whp.. and pushing about 14 pounds...thats pretty much my ultimate goal maybe 325 on race gas, no more than that... also wondering what kind of spool times will i be getting with a T3 .58 A/R an ERL cast manifold.... if its way to late of a spool time... the turbo will be for sale and i will be using another turbo... T3 Super 60 Dual Ball Bearing... if the SC61 is ok the other turbo will be for sall as well.... make a resonalbe offer and one of them can be yours..
the SC61 less than 200 miles
the T3 Super 60 Dual Ball Bearing less than 1000 miles

yes, the sc61 is too big
t3 super 60 willl never get you to 325whp... much less 300whp on pump.... the compressors limit is right around 300 crank hp

the SC61 isn't "too big" but it's certainly overkill for your goals.
I got a good deal on an ITS turbo that's exactly like the SC61 except for an inconel turbine wheel and larger compressor inlet....my goals are only 260 or so WHP.....I don't care much about spool time as I won't be boosting in town.

personally i think that turbo is too big unless you are going to make more power later....it just depends on how long you're going to stay w/ the power you have. I think if you're going to upgrade for sure in the future, then deal w/ the lagginess now and get the SC61....if its going to be a while then look for something like a T3/T04E turbo that's going to put down some nice numbers in the 250-275 range and if/when you upgrade, then ditch the turbo and get a bigger one.
check this guy setup
he ran a 12.1 on a stock b16 with sc61

It's my only car now, daily driven and boosted. The way I drive my car I am very happy with the turbo and it's size. It has power where I have traction in the upper rpm range and I can keep the power on tap if I need it, just keep the revs up.

I agree
. Believe it or not, I'm running an SC61 on a completely stock jdm B16 at only 7 pounds of boost, and I LOVE IT! A lot of people that critisize the lag time have had no actual experience with it....it's very tolerable. Sure, you have to wait a little longer in first gear to hit boost, but once you do its awesome. After 1st gear, there really isn't any lag b/c everytime you shift the rpms don't fall lower than 5500 (this is if you are getting on the car, running it at the track, etc). And if I'm just cruising down the road and I want boost THAT bad, I just downshift and BAM!..there it is! And i get PLENTY of boost in 3rd gear...i don't know why people say there is none

A lot of that depends of what boost level you want to make that power . . . and what version of the SC61 you use.
Overall . . . I tend to agree that it's a bit large. I'm looking for 300-320 rwhp on my 2.3L Mustang SVO and am planning to use the SC50 ball bearing. I'm going to run in the the Fun Ford Weekend 4 and 6-cyl class . . . and maybe some NOPI so you guys can kick my ***. <grin>
The SC44 would be a compromise between the two.
