s-afc-how good of a tune with wideband
I was just curious of how good of a tune could i get out of a 91 teg with turbo,255 fuel pump,450 injectors and a missing link at 10-12psi with a wideband. My buddy has ags eclipse with apex-afc and a aem wide band and it is tunned at a steady air/fuel setting through all gears and the car runs great

Re: (93turbo16)
get a FMU and you can tune it well enough for a little but not the greatest set up....I run it on my car and unless you have a timing retard you can't get a full potential tune out of it but the car does run well and is safer at that boost than the HACK

Re: s-afc-how good of a tune with wideband (turbo90lude)
You could probably tune the A/F ratio pretty decent with a SAFC, but that's not the real issues. The problem is that the SAFC will advance your timing. With a few pounds of boost, this might not be a big deal as long as you retard the timing at the dizzy. But start building more than say 7-8 psi, even just briefly, your timing will be way too advanced and you'll detonate....and you know what happens from there.
Oh, and btw, with the SAFC and 450's, you won't need an FMU or a missing link.
One more thing, your friends Eclipse can be tuned without the timing problems because it uses a MAF instead of a MAP sensor.

you are right to a point...I run no timing control on my car right now with a FMU missing link, 450's 255lph and afc....I run 1.1 bar at the track and .9 bar daily on it......

More power to ya!!! But I gaurantee you that if you were to dissasemble your block, your ringlands would disentigrate in your hands. You're probably running rich enough that you haven't grenaded yet, but thed damage is being done, I assure you.

funny there are cars that ripped into 10's on that set up......it is amazing that if people haven't heard it from high posters it can't be done

Yeah, I know a guy like that. He has a 10 second hatch, and probably has 20 melted pistons hanging on his wall.
Why spend all that money on a turbo kit, and cheap out on the management. An AFC is like $300. For that you could buy all of the equipment to chip your ECU, and use a freeware ROM editor available at http://www.pgmfi.org

Its actually better to run more boost with the AFC hack setup. See J. Davis' post about it.

Lower boost levels are actually more dangerous because its advancing the timming alot due to the fact that the MAP isnt seeing that much voltage where as when you run more boost the MAP advances timming less cause its seeing more voltage. This is what I pulled from his post. People have ran 10s with the FMU setup. If its done right it can be reliable. A few years ago, thats all there was so people had to make em work.
Good Luck

I don't give a **** about high posters, I've got my very own cracked sleeve as proof and melted JE's as proof.
