FMU? will I blow my motor on 6psi??
if Im runnng a safe 12:1 which is kinda rich, I could just retard the Ignition timing a bit... Im prolly going to be running this set up untill I get Turboedit tuning this could take upto a month hopefully less.(gotta sell Hondata, to get cash for wideband and rom burner).... I will only be pushin' a measly 6 psi while running the FMU, just to besure I dont break ****... Anyway guys I appreciate your input and If u guys know of anyhting that I can do to make it safer Id appreciate it.. O and I might have to boost (only 6) Help me out..
O its a b20 and If u havent had experience with em still, Id like to hear what U think and how I could help not smash a sleeve....

Do you have a chipped ECU already and a set of larger injectors?
If so, I can burn you a conservative basemap for 25 shipped.
Will have boost tables, and stepped timing retard (.15 degrees per lb of boost from 1-3 psi, .3 degrees per lb of boost 3-5, .5 from 5-6psi....etc)

i was also going to be using a fmu temporarly, but i do have a chipped obdi ecu and injectors. would your base map be a better option than the fmu?
i have the sfmu, it allows some tuning so let me know

Re: FMU? will I blow my motor on 6psi?? (GS-R Civic)
My basemap would be better than the FMU only if you have larger injectors.
However, i really wouldn't run any boost using an FMU. I'd rather save up to do it correctly.
If you have 450cc injectors or something then yes, a basemap is great. It might run a tad bit rich for safety...but there are many who have run on basemaps for over a year before getting it tuned.

If you use an FMU make sure you have a good fuel pump. My friend made that mistake and ran lean, after 150 miles he melted not cracked, MELTED his ringlands

12:1 is not rich in my opinion. I'd stick to 12:1 or even high 11s if you have stock internals

I think maybe he was mistaken and talking the FMU ratio?
Why would he spend money on a wideband and then buy an FMU?

Re: FMU? will I blow my motor on 6psi?? (PRELUDE-GT35R)
he got lucky, Im going to run the fmu on stock fuel pump... I have a walbro 255lph but dont have anywhere to drop my tank... I might just have to wait till I can get it to a garage.. O and the reason im buying this fmu when i am going to get it tuned.. its my daily driver and I neeed it to get around soo its kinda important that I have it running again
But about dudes fuel pump causeing it to lean out.,.Thats pretty strange never heard of that( actully kinda scares me) sucks i got to drop the tank o well

As long as the tank is almost empty, dropping it is a peice of cake, but make sure that its almost empty cause if its not it'll be harder to put back up. I highly suggest getting an inline fuel pump if your gonna run the FMU. Make sure that you have a wideband so that you know your AFR is good and Id back the timming down a few degrees.... Waiting for it to be chipped is definetly the best way to do fuel management these days. I had to wait 2 weeks for my chip to arrive and start my FI CRX... That was the worst.... lol Im currently running 15psi on my stock block B20 with turboedit, 450s mitsu VR4 fuel pump and a zeitronix wideband. Its all about the tunning when it comes to this motor. PM if you have anymore questions.

You gotta DA right?? I didn't think you had to drop the tank, but I could be mistaken. Is this really true?? Cause When I go boost, I'm running a Walbro 255.

Re: FMU? will I blow my motor on 6psi?? (R6E6I6D)
how can i retard my timing to ensure i have less destruction... I know how but w/o gettign a better timing light than i have (ol' skool craftsman)

I ran FMU for two years. It was a 10:1 w/ walboro 255lph pump. I averaged 7psi on it but Ive ran it up to 11psi for a week or so. Zero issues, zero blown motors.
I checked my plugs after a week at 11psi and they were a little on the white side so I think that was pushing it lean.

Re: (OrangeBoost)
did you retard the ignition timing or anything like that? b/c like i said i puleld it to a huge 5 degrees....which i know is high for 6psi but im going to get it tuned soon soo i cant risk motor being blown

Re: FMU? will I blow my motor on 6psi?? (R6E6I6D)
im planning to run 10psi on a 12:1 vortech fmu with a 255lph walbro fuel pump, shouldnt have a single problem if everything is taken care of. FMU's arent as bad as some make them out to be, they actually are great for low budget guys such as myself that arent planning to boost a lot. if youre planning to boost above 10psi then id go with an upgraded EMS.
