I need either an smc or an afc for a temporary fuel controller. I have a b18a in a crx thats turbo'd. Im running 7psi on stock injectors and an fmu right now. I just ordered some rc440's and im going to hook up my msd inline too...so i needsomething to lean it out a little. The smc500 is cheap and ive heard that its easier to use...but the new safc can display all the stuff its reading including boost which it couldnt do before. So i guess im asking which is better...the smc or the hack? Ive heard some bad stuff about the hack lately...but i dont know if its all true. So what do you guys think? And please dont tell me to useuberdata...i dont have time to do all that is involved in getting that to run right. I just want something that i can plug up...do a little tuning on the butt dyno and drive. Thanks

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to using either one? Like does one cause hesitation before boost or anything like that? THanks

I was researching this for a while myself. THe SMC is a nice inexpensive unit, unfortantly I have researched it, and even Emailed to get more info. I wanted to know about timing, and a few other things, and all I got back was it works great w/ an MSD. In other words I couldn't find any tech help on the SMC. I have heard people using it succesfully and with good times. I think the new AFC you would be able to get a lot more tech info on. I know this probally isn't helping you much, but when I searched that was all I was able to find. I decided and saving to go w/ Hondata, or AEM EMS. You could also look into uberdata.

This is just going to be temporary...im going to go hondata eventually. And once again...im not going to use uberdata. I dont have the time to get it running right. Keep the comments and opinions coming.

so your saying its not necessary to install an aftermarket fuel pump when using 440 or 450's and the afc?
if i can just get away with bumping the fuel pressure up a bit that would be sweet......

You must be talking about the old SMC. The new one is adjustable every 500rpm and has dual settings, you can switch from one to another at a preset PSI. It also has an adjustable max voltage to to the map input on the ECU. It might not be as good as using hondata or some of the other stuff out there, but I think it is better than using a safc.

SMC

Both units will alter timing because they are tricking the ECU (by modifying the MAP voltage input to the ECU) and thereby forcing it into a different area of the fuel/timing map.
For what you want to do, the SMC will work fine and it's a lot cheaper.

the new safc is what i got...2 reasons, it monitors knock, so you know if your car is detonating, and it has two fuel maps that you can save to it...i think those are two really great features.
