RWD H22 project has commenced
this kick more *** than a can of whoop ***. I too want to do something like this, but the effort sucks because i suck at welding, and i really don't know much about geometry of how cars suppose to be placed. When i did my RX-7 with a 5.0L 302 engine, it was hell.

F&F Supra style y0!
I think Im kinda screwed on roof storage. I couldve fit it in the front end, but I decided it would be wiser to live through a front end collision than store my roof.
Basically, its either going to be on or off if I go anywhere!
Heres some pics of what I got done today.

Since these pictures, I have gotten most of the front tubing done. Tomorrow, I will mock up the gas tank, and run through the firewall to the cage to tie everything together. Digi batteries died, so no pics of this till I can recharge them tomorrow

then whats with all the cutting! lol just kidding, I'm sure there will be some mean *** tubes in there for support, but I'm thinking it'd be tighter just like it is. hack the fenders above the wheels and mount a 3 gallon cell to the fire wall and stick the bumper directly to it, then make a small foot long hood and you're set. how weird would it be to see a car thats about 6 feet long.

The metal that was there was already "comprimised", and wastn exactly stiff, nor safe.
I will have X braces up, down, and along each "rail" so that this thing wont move at all(probably even in a relatively large impact).
Oh, Just for kicks...I tried to pick up the front end again....Almost threw IT off the blocks!(I almost did that w/the back end when it was gutted out) I would guess that to get the front end off the blocks, 30-40 lbs in the upward direction is all thats needed! Oh ya, this is with the majority of the braces at least tacked in-place
Any ideas on how to get more weight up there? Im genuinely worried now! A full gas tank will help quite a bit, but it seriously wont take much at all to get the front wheels off the ground, especially with the anticipated 360lb/ft of tq I will have. Im also starting to thing REALLY hard about 345's up front too, to help combat the gross understeer that will probably occur w/skinnier tires.

Thats why I decided on existing suspension pieces! What you have done just amazes me! See my SIG

What about if you used solid tubes for the front end? possible? sounds like it would help with the anorexia of the car and also be stronger.
just a thought.

think more about levers....rear wheels are the fulcrum point. the further forward the weight is the more affect it will have. i figure if u ran a decent sized fuel tank, that would take up most of the engine area. then you could mount a couple batteries right up behind the front bumper. are you just planning on running no thermostat? as it is the pump will prolly be slowed down quite a bit when it has to push the coolant all the way to the front of the car. another thing i would do if i was you is buy a new radiator support and use the top half of it to mount my headlights and bumper.
PS cant wait till u get a respectable bumper and hopefully a nice aftermarket hood and maybe even some clean oem fenders, i wouldnt worry about keeping the front down too much. most cars that lift the front up still launch extremely well. my dad had a t-bucket with huge meats(bigger than ur tires by a big shot) on it and with an auto tranny when he launched it with my uncle in the car too the front would come up and the car still launched real nice. actualy from what my uncle said 1 time it gripped real nice and they almost flipped. the weight is around 1600lbs + 500lbs of people. 2100lbs and a pretty built n/a small block.

Just ordered a stock bumper yesturday, and Im using these hideous AWD Wagon wheels because thats approximately the sidewall height of the 345s. I will be making my own headlight/bumper supports like I did in my 97 coupe(just alot cleaner!).
The Gas tanks full wiegh almost 100 lbs(I think more actually?). I might just have to cruise around on full all the time.
I should re-clarify about my weight question:
I dont want to bolt 200 lbs of lead in the front end; I meant, anything else to move up front besides the battery and gas tank? Im keeping all the turbo stuff in the rear of the car for simplicity/performance reasons. Oh, I can put the WAIC resevior up front. Theres 5 gallons, 30 lbs or so(and the pump). w00 w00!

would you be making a mini trunk in the front? If you do, then you could use sheet metal to line it, and also a spare tire could be tossed up front somewhere..I really can't think of anything else you could move to the front, well I could, but they'd be unnecessary

No need to go two batteries, Im not running a 4k watt stereo system.
95 bumper.
Today I got the Inner-cage done, and Im working on beefing up the UCA/Strut mounts in the front. Then, the car will be ready to put back on the ground
Hopefully by Sunday since I have a full two days to work on it, sun-up till sun-down. No pics yet, camera batteries still recharging.

Just in case you forgot, they already make the car you're building

hahaha. I wouldn't worry about the weight up front too much until you get it on the ground. Maybe think about pushing the fenders out and making a tunnel to add some downforce up front though, kind of solve two problems at once.

Any info on the Mr2?? Looks impressive
Ya, but that chassis was designed from the factory with the engine in the back. Ount know, maybe Im just being paranoid.
