Default Rods/Pistons, is blockgaurd nec. for my setup?

My setup is the greddy kit on a d16y7 and over the winter I am going to do eagle rods/cp pistons and was wondering if blockgaurd would be recommended for 15-16psi on the greddy kit? I am going to be using hondata s100b.

The TDO4 turbo with the greddy kit....i don't even think that turbo would be that efficient at 16 psi??

It won't be...I think 15psi is about the most ive heard people push it, Ive even heard them losing efficientcy @13psi...

I was just trying to follow a setup that was done by st00pid on one of his clients in which they put down 250whp @15psi.

yeah you should have it installed properly if you're gonna use it. that's all i have in my current setup....pistons, rods, blockgaurd and i'm able to boost 17 lbs occasionally on race gas. 15 lbs daily.

Is blockgaurd a necessity or could I get away without it? My main concern is that no shop around here will be able to install it so I would have to ship out the block.

Well, since you already have the head off, why do you need to send it off to put in the blockguard? Just tap it in and make sure it fits snug. But don't pound it in and throw the cylinders out of round. If anything, just hone them slightly before throwing in the pistons.

I know its cheap, its just the install that i'm worried about, i don't trust myself and I don't trust any of the shops in the area so that would mean mailing it out.

man your not gonna misshape the cylinder walls by tapping in a little piece of aluminum...i dont know if anyone has actually every messed up the cylinder walls by not installing a blockguard "properly"....on my friends turbo gsr motor we pounded in his str blockguard and he has had no problems what so every for over at least 5k miles and 18psi

just tap it in with a rubber mallet and if you cant get it all in just take a 2x4 or something and set that on the part of the blockguard sticking out still and tap down with a hammer.....you should install the block guard prior to installing the pistions and honing the cylinder walls btw

Maybe i'll just have to ship out a block to have the blockguard installed.

I really don't think that would be worth it

It's your money.

But since the shipping is going to cost more than the blockguard itself, why not just make it worthwhile and get it SLEEVED.

I personally dont' see the point of running a sleeved block with a greddy kit that will max out @ 250whp, doesn't seem worth it if you ask me, I Would either do 2 things.

Pistons/rods...boost 15lbs and call it a day

or

Pistons/rods/sleeves...Sell greddy kit, and get something that can make the power the block is built for.

like gritsak said, why not just install it yourself. tap it in with a rubber mallet. works for me. forged pistons, rods, str blockguard holding 10 psi and a 100 shot of spray

Maybe i'll consider doing it myself if I am going to do the rods and pistons myself. Any sites with a DIY for blockguard?

DIY- set it around the sleeves and hit it in with a rubber mallet evenly until its under or flush with deck height

your making it out to be MUCH harder then it is...it took about 2mins on my friends car

That seems pretty easy to me. Everyone told me that it was mad hard and if you fucked up, your engine is fucked.
