Default Return Line Size for SC61

Just started putting together all of my lines/fittings/etc for my turbo setup and realized that I have -8AN line (1/2") for my oil return. I know typically guys run -10AN lines (5/8") for the return. Will I be alright?

I think you would be ok with -8. Make sure the return angle is perfect. It has to always slope down hill, the steeper the grade the better. And the bung on the pan should be as high as it possibly can be.

when gravity draining bigger is better, you need to run a -10an on a journal bearing even if running an oil restrictor, -8an is fine on gt/ball bearing turbos due to alot less oil volume

it's a journal bearing turbo with a straight down drain and obviously a gradual curve into my oil pan, which is tapped with a 1/2" npt fitting. this sucks. now i have to buy new lines and weld another bung ti my pan. fuuuuuuuuu. thanks though guys.

If you have a threaded bung on your oil pan, just buy a 1/2npt-10am adapter. Dot need to have the whole oil pan redone

well then what's the point of having 5/8" line with a 1/2" port? makes no sense.

Doesnt matter. As long as the drain is correctly oriented.

I dont think the cartridge is any different then most T3/T4's.

I run a -8AN return on my SC61...

But then mine does smoke a little on decel... I don't think that is really due to the return line size as much as it needing some new seals. I was going ot try to switch to a restrictor fitting on my oil inlet before I bit the bullet on a rebuild cuz it doesn't smoke all the time.

I am running a -10an on my sc61 and still have smoking issues and my return line couldnt be and steeper going into the pan.I would suggest -10an but there are much smarter people on here than me.

Smoking issues? Can you give more details?

I just finished my setup too and redid my return line and I still have smoke.

What size feed line is everyone using? I'm on -4an with no restrictor

should run a restrictor on all turbos unless otherwise stated by turbo manufacture aka borg warner turbos
