Default quick question on boost gauges

I have an autometer vac/boast gauge. At idle it shows 20 vacum. When revved, the gauge goes up to zero psi but won't show positive pressure. Car was on lift with no load in engine but I don't think that would have anything to do with it. Think I have a defective gauge or just that shitty vynal line they give you? Any opinions would be a great help.

you boost when there is load. Up on a lift there is no load on the engine, at least not enough to produce boost. You gauge and line are working correctly.

so there's no boost without an engine load? Is that my problem? anyone else agree?

100% agree. I would assume you have a nice sized turbo...I didn't check...The only reason why some can rev and get +pressure is cause they have a super-small turbo. Then, yes, you can build boost and blow off in nuetral.

actually... u dont need to create boost to 'blow off' in neutral.
If you rev out to ur max, let the rpm's fall half way, then rev it out again.. ull get a BOV noise... but that doesnt mean ur making boost. But It does mean u can creat pressure without load.. just not much .

but yea back to the topic.. you need to create load in order to get ur gauge to go into positive pressure(boost)
