Default Quick MBC Question

As far as manual boost controllers go, if an MBC is set for 10psi on one car, you move it to another, it won't need to be adjusted will it? Don't see why I should, just double checking my logic.

Thx.

It will have to be readjusted for 10psi unless the wastegates, wastegate springs, intercoolers(if your using a vacuum source for the MBC), etc are the same.

Interesting. I thought MBC's opened and closed simply with pressure. What makes it neccessarry to adjust?

Pressure.
In theory it wouldn't open until 10psi is present on the input side, but somehow i have a feeling that it's not going to work that way...

Yeah, that's what I thought too. 10psi on one setup is equal to 10psi on any other as far as the boost controller can see.

Anyone else got input?

Different lengths shouldn't change air pressure though.

BTW, thanks for the SC61 comment. owned.

Sure, it'll take longer for the MBC to reach 10psi. The fact remains that 10psi is 10psi.

Just you wait.

Lets say you have a 8psi wastegate spring in one setup and a 10psi spring on another setup. The different spring rates are going to affect boost pressure. You won't have to "tighten"/restrict the airflow on the MBC as much on the 10psi setup to raise to say 12psi as you would with the 8psi spring. Since you would be raising 2psi for the 10 and 4 psi for the 8. Get it?

So basically, the boost controller restricts the reading that the wastegates sees, rather than holding back air completely untill the desired pressure is seen?

It depends on what kind of boost controller it is.

In this case it's a TurboXS. Didn't realize there were different kinds of MBCs but that makes a bit more sense.

If everything was exactly the same, it probably still wouldn't be exactly right. 10psi of boost is only part of the equation. The wastegate is just a valve that has a spring holding it closed, and exhaust backpressure and the boost pressure reaching the actuator acting to open it. The amount of pressure in the exhaust manifold/turbo is significant enough when compared to a spring that can be moved by 10psi of boost pressure.

an sc61 is a t3/t4

I thought about pointing that out, but I'll let him revel in his non-SC61 ways.

He's banned now anyway, so the point is moot! haha
