Default question regarding bore sizes

i was just curious to know why a lot of people when getting there blocks resleeved, choose 84mm. I understand that it would then roughly be a 2.0l. But, why don't people choose to go larger, like say 87mm or 89mm? Is the block to small for this? Take into consideration i'm talking about motors with boost, not n/a.

for some reason, this post made me smile, while being absolutely correct. In theory at least...

so lets say for example that having a b20 resleeved to be a 2.2 liter isn;t safe enough for boost? Or do different rules apply because it is already up to 2l.

My understanding is that the B20 is the same block as the b18 series... it has a different sleeve process (I think all 4 cyl. are cast in one piece which makes it stronger) but overall it's the same size as the b18, making a larger bore equally "dangerous".

I had a gsr that was bored to 86mm, those walls were super thin. I could not imagine anything beyond that. Although there are supposedly a few guys running 87mm bores...on the street. Get that thing stroked a bit, say 100mm stroke, and youve got yourself a 300hp all motor monster. I chose to go with the 83mm bore on my gsr. There is plenty of wall left with the gem sleeves, and i will be boosting on it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by gsr squirrel &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">so lets say for example that having a b20 resleeved to be a 2.2 liter isn;t safe enough for boost? You don't just get displacement out of the bore size. you can change your crank throw and that can also give you more displacement. You can go to a 2.2L if you run an 84mm piston with a stroker crank and rods. I have a friend that is building a this type of motor down in fort collins.
