Question about turbo smoking
OK this is my 2nd turbo I am trying, and both of them smoke out of the exhaust, smells like burning oil. I was in a rush to put this one on so i can drive to my folks house for christmas today, and the return outlet is higher than the feed inlet, like they are reversed. would this cause a backup of some sort and cause it to smoke? I cant figure out why it is smoking. thanks.

Re: Question about turbo smoking (rewsnaeht)
yes it could the oil return is gravity feed,
when the oil come's out of the turbo
it has lots of air in it, like foam
thats why you need a oil return so long like 19 inchs(consult turbo manufacturer)
so it will turn from foam to liquid oil and drain into sump
if you used to different turbos,
then it's not the turbos
its' you're setup

Re: Question about turbo smoking (hybrid901)
well i called my dad up (ex diesel mechanic), and he says its definately because the outlet was on top, it was backing up and the oil just pushed thru and burned. i was in a rush and didnt rotate the center piece, but ill definately be doing that my next day off. as for now, my stock exhaust manifold is on
glad to know nothing is broken or anything, my dad says the turbo should be fine.
