question about the turbo.
I just noticed something about my turbo, when the car is idling is the little turbine thing suppose to be at a dead stop?
the little fins in the intake side.

Re: question about the turbo. (97integraLST)
most turbos dont spin when the engine is at idle.. unless the turbine/compressor wheels are very small. This is normal.

Re: question about the turbo.
Mine spins at idle too, and I have T3/T04E for sure. Maybe that's a good sign: nice spinning action, well oiled, light compressor wheel.

Re: question about the turbo. (tararan)
Let me make a modification. Turbo systems that have free flowing exhausts and a hardly any backpressure, yes the turbo can spin. A turbo that doesn't spin at idle is not a sure sign of a problem, because there will be times that it's not spinning. Just make sure your turbo doesn't leak oil.. that's the main concern. Keep it cool with a turbo timer and make sure your oil feed doesn't have too much pressure.

Is the setup affected if it's not spinning during idle? I wouldn't think so, but anyone have any proof if it helps or does nothing?

Re: question about the turbo. (ForcedAccord)
Performance isnt affected at all if it isnt spinning at idle. A highly loose and free spinning turbo will spin during idle. All that means is that the turbo spins quickly when needed to, and its free spinning. No biggie.
