question for "the shodan"
i have a turbo that i know little about and i was hoping you could point me in the right direction. it is a schwitzer t04b19 with a banks compressor housing and a banks divided t3 exhaust housing which is stamped 1.00a/r, i dont have a mic but i plan on purchasing one in the next couple days if that is what it takes to figure out what i have to work with. i dont plan on running this because i think it is too big for my b16, but i would like to know as much as possible about it so i can try to sell it to the right "group of people" i guess you could say. from my understanding it is a fairly common turbo in the diesel crowd but none of my searching has come to any real data so that leads to this thread.
btw, it is a rebuilt that has not been run yet and the receipt states that it's a ball bearing, how can i tell if it is?
and a pic

Re: question for "the shodan" (nateg)
i believe that turbo was originally built for the case harvesters
i guess banks built housings for it.
but without measurements its hard to tell
can you get the numbers off of the CHRA tag?

Looks like that turbo was OE on a Case.
It should work on your car just fine. We have smaller turbine housings that will bolt right on and work fine with your car.

Re:
bought a cheap digi mic today so here goes
compressor small
comp big
exhaust big
exhaust small
i did the trim math and came out with a 62 for the compressor and 132 for the exaust, what do these numbers mean?

Re: question for "the shodan" (wantboost)
it is a t04b compressor, thats what the tag says, but what about the exhaust wheel isn't it a little big?

Those wheels come out closest(not exact) to a p-trim to4 exhaust and a v-trim to4b compressor. So yeah, the exhaust wheel is on the big side. Theorizing, but a 1.00a/r divided t3 housing will likely be around a .82 t3 spoolwise with the proper mani. The v-trim should work well for a mild-moderate b16.

Re: question for "the shodan" (poop II)
so what other housings can i go with turbodano? this one apparently has a gt32 style 6bolt, is there anything with a standard 4 bolt or even better a v-band outlet?

Re: question for "the shodan" (nateg)
I'm curious why you'd want to change from that sweet housing? A larger AR divided T3 with a wheel slightly larger than a stg5 t3 in it? That's perfect for a high-HP street/strip car, and the comp wheel has the extra blades and tighter comp map than a 57trim t04e wheel, yet flows almost as much (48 vs 49lbs/min).
All I see is a great spooling, 450whp capible (on 93) turbo. Pretty much any vehicle that has 2-3L of displacement that wants to max out his/her street tires & pump gas would be happy with that turbo.
FYI the turbo I plan on using for ~350whp on my SOHC eventually is just a little smaller (GT32). Yours is roughly between a GT35 and GT32.

Re: question for "the shodan" (HiProfile)
Both HiProfile and PoopII are correct. (Sorry for the late response, just got back from Toronto from over a week). This is a v-trim compressor wheel that utilizes a larger P-trim turbine wheel, and it is an "inbetween size" of the GT32 and GT35. However, the turbine wheel is not at all matched well with the compressor wheel that is being used for a smaller displacement application. Yes, the compressor wheel is fine, but the turbine housing and wheel will slow down a lot of the fun response that you'd expect from the compressor side. This is because the original design of this was upfront torque with NO power band. Not much for power, so a tractor a larger truck would want this design.
You can change the turbine shaft to fit a better turbine housing, but the shaft "hat" may have a bit of difficulty of matching up, since it is a T4 cartridge and turbine housing. You can keep the back plate, compressor housing, compressor wheel and change the cartridge, turbine housing and turbine shaft. These will affect cost, so check around if you decide to pursue this.

Re: question for "the shodan" (TheShodan)
no i dont plan on changing anything on the turbo, but if was able to get a smaller turbine housing for less than 200 bucks i might think about it as i had no original plans of running this to begin with, if i was going to change shafts and all that i'd just buy a new turbo like i had planned on, plus this turbo not spooling until 5500 or so is kind of appealing to me (i drive on the interstate quite often and really don't want to be in or close to boosting while crusing), also i'm already running e85 and dont have ANY plans of going back to the dark side

Re: question for "the shodan"
bringing this back from the grave.....
kinda lost interest in this turbo for a while, got into welding, ordered some flanges......built a manifold.....boost is addicting, hits 8psi @ 5000 and stays there.
what options do i have for smaller housings that will bolt on? i'd like it to spool a little earlier
the flange is a t3 is there a difference between a t4 housing and a t3?, aside from the inlet flange?,
