Default Project finished! D16Z6 turbo

First off I must thank Ladysman for all his help in the process of getting this project completed.

I finally completed my turbo project on my 94' EX coupe last night. Took about 8 months of sacrifices, research, reading on H-T, and parts buying but it has all paid off.

Setup:

D16Z6 (bone stock, engine wise) w/78000 miles
Hondata s200
RC 550's
BBK 255lph fuel pump (in-tank)
Garrett T3/T04E 50 trim .50/.48 A/R
Max-Rev log style manifold
Max-Rev 2.5" to 3" down pipe (w/cat delete)
Max-Rev Dump tube
Tial 38mm wastegate (small green spring)
HKS SSQV
PWR intercooler (22x8x3)
Max-Rev intercooler piping kit (needed alot of cutting/rearranging to work)
Thermal 3" stainless "cat-back"
Imperial 12" slim line fans (custom brackets by Ladysman, good stuff )
Defi-link Boost & EGT gauges (and Defi-link controller II)
PLX 350 wideband

It’s a whole different car, it now pulls with authority. I get full boost by 3500 RPM and holds to redline.

But there is one issue. I ordered the Tial with a .5bar (7.25psi) spring, but boost reaches about 8.5-8.7psi. I pulled the "hat" off the wastegate today and it has a small green spring in it. After some research (here on H-T) I have come up with some conflicts on what color=what spring. I have found that the small green is .5bar and then another thread will say that it is .6bar. So which one do I really have? Other then this, the car runs great, but I do need to get some colder plugs.

Oh, Ladysman has a bunch of pictures and they should be posted sometime soon.

Sounds like a great setup. I'll be using an SC50 with .48 A/R. You like the spool up? Full boost by 3500rpm is pretty good.

I was shooting for full spool by 3500 so this combination worked out perfect. It starts making boost at 2700-2800, then punches in at around 3500.

I intentionally wanted a little lag because this car is mostly used for SCCA Solo II (auto-x).

So you saying the .48 ar pulls from 3500 all the way to redline? I too am deciding between a .48 or .63

Let me know thanks

Yep, the turbo really comes to life in the 3400-3600 range, with no signs of fading.

See if I can get the pics to work.

Intercooler mounted and piping run.

Custom condensor mounting brackets, by Ladysman

Downpipe, tight fit. Dumptube was an even tighter fit

Turbo, downpipe, dumptube, intercooler piping, and wideband final fitment

Another turbo shot. I have to make a intake pipe so my filter will fit. I have screen on it for the time being.

Engine bay. I have a little polishing to do yet.

beautiful man. the small green spring is the 7.25psi. my friend is running one in his car, and it boosts to about 8psi. i have the 5.8 psi spring and my boost hits a shade over 6 psi. i see your oil return hits your downpipe. mine does too, but i wound up heatwrapping the downpipe instead of the oil line. good luck with the setup man, its surely badass

Thanks for all the comments.

blackeg: I am probably going to heatwrap the downpipe. I had to order more wrap so I should be able to take care of that soon.

Well off for vacation. Sucks to get it done and then have to leave.

I had a t3/t4 .48ar 48trim on my old sohc setup - it spooled up very fast and held boost all the way till redline. The max boost i ever ran was 18psi and she worked great.

Damn right it is a good setup. (It is my old one except for turbo.)

It pulls nice. I got some tuning to do on it for him then we will take her to the dyno to see and post the numbers.

Carl did all of the intercooler himself. It looks awesome. It took us a ton of time on the intercooler piping only because we wanted it done right the first time. Other than that, no major issues. He was only hoping for 200whp but I think we can get more.
