Default Problem keeping car temp down in traffic?

Sittin in traffic Temp starts to rise gradually not fast at all but enough to notice.

Normal sits about a 3rd of the way up on the cool side......sit in construction traffic for 15 min on an 80 degree day and the temp starts up.....getting worried the car has all new hoses, fan, radiator, thermo, water pump and full of coolant.....what else could the problem be? I mean I know its hot as hell under the hood but all new cooling sys should mean cold! lol as soon as traffic starts up moving again the temp hits normal pretty quick like the water gets flowing and cools off immedietly? Now your thoughts?

Motor is a boosted b20z in an 92 eg hatch. ( Irrelevant to the problem I know but someone will ask! )

how big is your intercooler? you're probably not getting any airflow.

i dont think airflow in the intercooler will make a different when you're sitting still.

OP, what radiator are you running?

if there's no room for air to go through, whats gonna cool it? its probably getting cooler when he drives it cause the pressure is pushing the air past the intercooler.

pull the bumper off, i'm sure your temps will drop dramatically.

Better fan and a radiator fan shroud.

I dont think he means air flow to the intercooler, but to the radiator. The radiator has to have a specific amount of room to breath....

Also like mentioned above the radiator fan might no be pulling enough air through to cool properly...

Try putting a fan on both sides of the radiator, one pushing and one pulling.(If you have room)

no room i would like to........ and im running a fan offa 2000 model civic that does not have a shroud....and just mounted to the radiator. But what would the fmic have to do with the sitting temp to the car i mean it will go back down if i rev the car to a fairly high RPM it seems to me like the cooler water isnt getting to the car cuz when i rev it the water would move through out the car and be a cooler temp that is in the motor......right?

Opinions?? And if that seems dumb sorry lol......

What's the cfm rating of that fan?

Air in the system would cause an overheat at idle, but would then go away once moving again usually.

If you are continually getting air in the system, have you checked for a blown head gasket? What kind of head studs are you using on the boosted b20?

The fan is turning on, right? J/w

that radiator fan is garbage, get a shrouded fan or make a shroud for that one and your problem will go away... use an 80/20 water/coolant mixture bleed the **** out of the system...

Hint, go to the junkyard and get some OEM fans that fit the size of the radiator well... such as a nissan maxima quest etc... those work well and are shrouded much better

the fan you have isnt even pulling air thru the entire radiator

I totally agree on the shrouding. I'm sure even that fan would be fine with a good shroud. You are probably not even drawing air through half the radiator as it is. A better fan AND a shroud would give you even more headroom if you want it.

do you have air in the coolant system? i had some in mine after a fluid change and the temp would only start to rise after sitting at idle for a bit but once i started moving again it would drop back down... i bled the coolant and didnt have the problem again

If you can use a factory 92-95 civic fan that would be your cheapest way to fix your problem. Those slim fans are junk. I have one lol I bought it here on ht for like $40 lol
