Cooling / Radiator problem!?!
On my way home, I notice my car started to over heat a little but then it became worst. So I put the temperature on hot and then the fan on full blast. The temperature started to go down a little under the halfway mark. I know normally my car is 1/2 way to the halfway mark on the gauge when warmed up.
When I got home popped the hood and check to see if any coolant was left inside the radiator. I couldn't really see but I added water ( I didn't have any Prestone on me) and added a bit of water in the reserve. I took the car out for a spin and the notice the needle was about 3/4 to the half mark.
So it was running a little warmer then usual. I put the fan to cool and put it full blast and drove the car and the needle didn't move. I let the car sit and the needle didn't move from the 3/4 to the halfway mark on the temperature gauge.
I was wondering what could be the problem with it over heating? why did I loose coolant?
Also I think that maybe water doesn't have the same effect as Prestone and that is why it is at the 3/4 to halfway mark and not the normal 1/2 to the halfway mark.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dave

is this in your civic or del sol? are your radiator fans working? did you check coolant in the reservoir? did you check coolant in your radiator? check your oil to see if the coolant is mixing (headgasket leak). how many miles are on your car? last time the waterpump was changed? last time your thermostat was changed? temp switch changed?

was there any smoke from the exhaust?
did you look around to see if maybe a hose leaked/ripped?
Water and coolant wont make a difference. I put all water in last spring and it was fine.

fan is coming on, no coolant in the oil (I checked it), no smoke and no visible leaks. The only thing was there was missing coolant.

water cools better than antifreeze.i would make sure the fans are working properly and make sure the straw is connected in your overflow,if the siphon straw is not connected you will loose coolant from the rad

try replacing the radiator cap and do a coolant flush
Sounds like either a headgasket or your radiator is plugged up so when it heated up that much your coolant leaked out and that's why you lost coolant

Actually the problem was the water pump was leaking. So I was loosing coolant which cause the car to overheat. Its ok everything is changed now car is running great.
