Default Problem with detonating, have any ideas?

My setup is a garret T3 .42 .48 on a d15b7 afc hack (tuned rich). Im running a JohnnyRaceCar front mount. I have 93 octane gas in it (north east) i bought some ngk 2 heat ranges colder plus, gapped to .28 and im boosting right around 7 psi. Now the only way i can get it to NOT detonate is by setting the timing at 9-10 BTC, anything higher then that it detontates. Now, this seems to be extremely retarded vs. a few other setups ive had, and i know im losing power with it retarded so much. Id like to run it at least 12-14 BTC, but it detontates. What should i check next?

sounds like the hack is causing you timing to go up to far.
I had the same turbo on my stock engine (d15b7 also). I ran stock plugs, stock timing, stock everything, except i raised the fuel pressure up to 60psi at idle. I ran 6psi daily with no detonation. The motor ran 20k miles of abuse before i sold it to my buddy. (still runs strong to this day 150k + miles)..
that was my first turbo experience, now well tuning takes a front seat. I was surprised that engine took that abuse, and kept on pumping out.. No intercooler either

So you just had an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? were you running the hack also? I have a stock fuel pressure regulator, i was thinking of trying an adjustable to see if that could cure it.

Nope this was long before all the goodies came out. This was before all the kits became readily available, and nobody was really toying with turbo's on honda's (around here). back when having a swap was a big thing. now turbocharged swaps are the norm.
now that i know more about forced induction i realize that it was dumb, but hey it worked, and i enjoyed the car. I'm now more "intune" with my car, hondata and larger injectors for me.
what size of injectors are you runing?

What would happen if you didn't do the hack, just ran the injectors and used the afc to lean them out? I've never ran the hack so i don't know much about it.
On my b16 i ran 310cc injectors, 4:1 fmu and a sfc to fine tune the afr. I actually had to lean it out a bit to get my 12.0:1 afr. It worked pretty good for me. But now i'm in the process of going larger (750cc) on the injectors and running hondata. hopefully in a few weeks i'll have it all squared away.
Sorry i cant help you more with the set-up you have, hopefully somebody with hack experience will chime in and give you a hand. I defiantly think that it's the hack thats causing the timing advance problem. Why it's a problem more so on yours then others, i don't know.

Running the afc is the hack, theres no way to run the "hack" without using the safc. Hack is just a term to confuse people, running an afc on any car is a "hack"

True, but what i consider the "hack" is like your set-up 450's and the afc, thats all.
To me my old set-up isn't "hack" (fmu, check valves, sfc, and not as large injectors)...See what i'm getting at, running the hack you rely on the afc to fool the map, and increase fuel under boost. Non-hack would be using the afc to fine tune the fuel curve. Either way it's still hacking the ecu.
anyways.

You sure your injectors are working properly? Pull each plug and see if one is abnormally leaner than the other.
