Default advancing the timing on a stock engine... any cons?

i dont have a timing light right now, so are there any downsides to running at fully advanced?

other than it running like ****, you run a much higher risk of detonation

wrong. it can happen on ANY stock motor. even more so if you run **** gas

you'll wear out your plugs faster. but as long as you only adjust a little bit...then you'll be fine. 1-2 degree's. some people say more

but using the search wouldnt be too bad either

i already searched and there was just a ton of worthless threads........

so are you saying i would have to run 91 octane if i didnt want detonation.... im not sure if thats an acurate assumption becuase with the low compression on a STOCK d15 i dont think it would detonate.

then try it...
you run a pretty big risk running fully advanced

you made another thread, saying to got a timing gun (dont know why that needed another thread)...just do it right and be done with it

I moved my dist. a little bit adavnced because my car was feeling sluggish when I had it directly in the center. It felt a lot better after I advanced it a little. But make sure you have it checked with a timing light. As for detonation, running 87 octane isn't bad for your d series. It's only bad if you have high compression like me (b16), I have to use 91 octane or higher or else I will get detonation.

I don't remember but I think stock for a b16 is 16 + or - 2 degrees. I dont think I went more than that.
