If you get a set of cams, you will really notice a difference if the head is p&p. It will flow better and make more power @ any RPM. Its kinda like using Hondata and injectors. You just do both at the same time. Catch my drift?

If you want to open up that head then go ls/vtec and get yourself a GSR head.
Less downtime, less money. Just my way of seeing it.

You never answered my question, so you'll not get my advice. Go ahead and decide, but I can't see what the point of asking in the first place was if you don't have any goals for the vehicle.

I know it is a hassel but you will be better off if you just get a vtec head and you wont need to worry about any of this, unless you are trying to make some crazy power.

Stock head, cams, and valvetrain - maybe a hair stiffer spring on the exhausts to help get heat out of them, but not manditory. Save the money for oil changes and a set of tires every 2000 miles. Please drive through.

i'm porting a spare ls head that i got from a buddy and slapping it on to my current setup. i'll post up both dyno graphs and you can compare for yourself if it's worth it or not.
i didn't want to go LS/Vtec because of the hassle of having to retune for vtec and redoing all the oil lines...yade yade yade, and the compression bump not to mention since i'm running stock comp. JE's.
just my .02, the LS head flows like **** so any type of modification that helps it breath better is worth it IMO. if you know what you're doing, just use a dremel and open up the intake and exhaust ports on your LS head.

Like, turning up the boost? Or putting a Roots into the system to promote scavenging like the old SI aircraft or, uhm, twin charged Detroit Diesels?
There are several different interpretations of breathing better if you ignore junk flowbench numbers that don't mean anything anyway, just like boost figures don't mean anything.

If you know what you are doing, bowl and ssr work is what you focus on. A smaller port + higher charge velocity + faux perception of "high boost is bad" doesn't have a great bearing on the subject. This is not NA, you just need to be worried about balanced flow to create good power.
