Default overheating problem *dammit*

well I have a 98 civic hb d16y7 engine..has 64k miles on it.. basically it overheats if I run the car for more than 20min or so.. I swapped in a new thermostat.. got a new radiator cap.. did a compression check looks good.. and now it threw a code that I';m going to check first thing in the morning.. just need advice on what is causing it..
1 either need a new water pump.. or the head gasket isn't sealing right..
and the radiator is good to did a compression check on that also..
ohh and it stays cool on the freeway but once on the street..it overheats basically ..thanks for any help

since it stays cool on the freeway, that means it is getting airflow and dissapating the heat from the coolant by the radiator. i had that problem and i think it's your fan buddy. you need to check if it's coming on which i doubt. so, check that and let us know and then we'll further act like we know what we are talking about.

I agree. Hot wire the fan to run constantly and see if it still overheats. If it doesn"t, replace the fan temp switch. If you can't make the fan come on at all, it could be a bad fan motor. Since it's a 98 with only 64K miles, the fan motor should not be bad yet...

I'll try to see about running it on all the time.. it does come on during idle so I suppose the fan is working properly.. oh well I'll see what I come up with
thanks

My car is doing the same thing and my fan won't come on. How can I hot wire my fan? How much would a new fan motor cost? How difficult is the job of installing a new fan motor?

Be sure to first check the fuse that runs the fan circuit. Check your owners manual for location. Fan motor easy to replace. Buy a Honda manual from Pep Boys if you are a rookie.

I had the same problem. I just wired the AC fan to come on by a switch inside the car. I also put on a 30 Fuse, the 15 I tried blew easily. Just remember to turn it off when you get out.

you shouldn't have any overheating problems with your d series motor in an ek civic.

check the fan to make sure it is working. that is most likely your problem. if not, you shouldn't need to keep your fan on constantly.

any other sypmtoms?
