Default overheating?!>

this is not a reatard question by any means.lol...

I have a Z6 boosted 10-12 psi. I am running uberdata 18deg advanced timing.
Here's the problem, my car started over heating when it kinda got warmer here.(nebraska). The over heating only happens at high speeds under boost and when I am at the track. so I put in a new thermostat and flushed the system. It still was overheating. so i got a radiator that was brand new (for the most part that i had at a friends house.. flushed it again, and let it heat up.. took it to the track last night. still over heating. I know detonation will cause tremendous amounts of heat and so will running lean.. my car was detonating last night at the higher rpms so I burnt a new chip with only 17 deg of timing. still overheating, but no pinging..WTF?!?!

I invested in some arp headstuds that I will be putting in this week. I was told on sohc motors the head tends to raise!?! under boost on some cars? and pushes coolant into the cylinders and hot air into the coolant system therefor causing it to overheat.

if I miss any details let me know and I will explain them for you.

Thanks for all your help,
Tony

try bleeding the system, sounds like you might have air trapped somewhere

it's fully bled.. I let it idle for about 20 minutes with the heat on.. no air pockets..
I have never heard of this problem ever ocurring to anyone I know. the only other thing i can think of is my fmic IS blocking alot of air flow thru the radiator and I might have to run the fan to a switch..

Thanks,
Tony

that could be what it is. are you running a stock rad. fan? might want to try investing in a unit that moves more air and run it to a switch. just a thought

I am going to go wire up a switch here in a minute.. if that doesnt work.. what else could it be. note my car has not been dyno tuned OR on a wideband yet. mostly going off of o2 voltage.. it still might be lean and pinging but not that I can hear.

I am going to get my buddy's wideband today and hopefully run it.

Thanks,
Tony

try the switch, if that doesnt work buy a fan that moves more air then the stock fan

so u do think it's a radiator cooling issue. not the whole lifting the head theory??.. I am going to go buy another fan though..

thanks guys,

you helped clear some things up..

i am having the same problem dude.
if i take it easy on my car (no boost) it seems to run at normal temps.
when i start to get on it (boost), it'll start to get hot.

what sort of gauge are you using?

you sure its not your gauge being a bit too optimistic?

well if it was the gauge it would have to be the temp sensor right under the dizzy. I have tested it and it works just fine.. to I know the sending unit for the gauge is good and the gauge on the dash is what I am looking at if that's what your referring to.. The high temperatures are very noticeable from the factory gauge.

if this clears any issues up and maybe we all can find out why this might be happening all of a sudden.

Thanks,
Tony

If i were you i'd go pick up an aftermarket gauge w/ sender and check with that. To make sure you aren't overheating by a few degrees and your gauge is going apeshit

thats just me...
