Opinions on what to use for fuel upgrades with turbo???
I've got an 89 civic si that I'll be using a T-25 turbo on, with a starion intercooler. I already have a 255 lph fuel pump, and I'm planning on 290cc DSM injectors later, but stock injectors for now.
What do you think I should use for a rising rate FPR??? I've looked at vortec FMU's but I don't like that they are expensive, and as far as I could tell, not adjustable. I've also been told to look at B&M command flow, but they don't seem to add fuel pressure in response to boost, but are just a normal FPR.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
PS: This is my first post on honda-tech, and I look forward to becoming involved with the site, it looks pretty good. Some of you may know me as LudeLover on hondamod.com or TurboSi on 4gcivic's forum.

Re: Opinions on what to use for fuel upgrades with turbo??? (TurboSi)
You will want to use the Vortech FMU. You won't be doing much adjusting with it, as it does not set baseline fuel pressure. It only adds fuel in boost.
If you want one that does both, Vortech and Cartech both make adjustable models (allow you to set baseline and rise rate). I have found that the cartech regulators are of questionable quality, however.

Ahh boy. So you think that the vortech FMU is expensive---and right now your not using anything to raise fuel pressure under boost?
It will get way more expensive down the line if you dont get the fuel setup. More expensive by the means of a new motor!
Do yourself, your car, and your motor a favor. GET AN FMU! Or, run a standalone with real big injectors.
By the way. Since I am going easy on you with your first post---I might as well tell you that everyone else that responds to this will probably tell you to use the search function.

Does anyone use the adjustable Vortech FMU? I was thinking about getting it. Should I get it or just stick with the normal one? Is it hard to adjust?

I'm not driving the car now. I may be a newbie here, but I'm not new to import tuning. This is my first turbo project, though. I just finished rebuilding the motor, and I"ll be putting it together soon. I"m planning on a stand-alone computer later, but for now I wanted to go with a basic fuel upgrade for a low boost system (5-7psi). I used the search button before posting, with NO results.
Thanks for the replies. Which Vortech would you reccomend? 10:1, 12:1 or less??

IF you're just going to be using the FMU, I suggest the 12:1 if you're only gonna be looking into boosting 5-7....just my 2shiny pennies.

Help me to understand guys...
If I have the Vortec FMU that comes with the DRAG kit, do I also need a Fuel Pressure Regulator such as the AEM, SX or Aeromotive?

Re: cartech fmu (dlplayboy)
You said $175 in your IM, but you have been trying to sell it in the classified forum for $150, and I could buy one on vortech's website for $140. Something doesn't add up here...

With 290cc injectors and 5-7psi of boost, you'll be fine with a 10:1 rate. 12:1 will work too, but I'd think your gonna run too rich there.

Re: cartech fmu (VTC_CiViC)
Do you think the 10:1 would be good with stock injectors (240, I believe)??
If I would be better off to go with the 290's right away, I'll buy them first. Also, if I get the 290's, should I get a fpr as well as the fmu to reduce the baseline fuel pressure??
Thanks again, I'm really impressed with the members on this site for the fast and helpful replies!

Re: cartech fmu (TurboSi)
If you have a good inline pump go with 10:1, 12:1 is too rich.
Screw the 290's and go with Prelude 310's. Put a B&M on the rail and drop the static fule pressure to 30-35psi and you will run fine.
I have a vortech FMU with 12:1 and 10:1 discs if you want to buy it. $70 plus shipping and you get both discs. It worked fine for me and has the 12:1 installed right now.
e-mail me: randygaz@mobilecellular.net
Randy
I am in Pittsburgh if you want to come get it.
BTW-Look at my website, alot of info for you there!!

Re: cartech fmu (RGAZ)
How can you drop the fp to 30-35psi with a B&M? The B&M doesn't replace the fuel return portion of the stock FPR as far as I know, which is part of the cause of the high fp associated with the inline pump at idle. So I don't see how you could drop the fp that much. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Re: cartech fmu (RGAZ)
I've sent you an email... I've actually been to your site quite a few times before. I found it while searching the web, and found it quite informative. I'll be sure to check it out some more.
Also, what model prelude has the 310's, and does anyone have experiance with them in a similar setup to mine?
Thanks!

Re: cartech fmu (TurboSi)
I wanted to bump this up to see if anyone does indeed have any info on the prelude 310 injectors. I did a search, BTW. I'm interested in info on fpr's also if anyone has any good links, especially with install pictures
