opinion, should i get a j&s?
call it $650 for the j&s and the monitor. i have a 5th gen lude, getting the bottom end built (golden eagle sleeve/bore/hone/balance/etc, endyn 9.5:1 pistons, eagle rods, cometic head gasket, no headwork) b/c i blew all my ringlands. i have a jrsc, going to run 9psi or maybe 11 if i want to test the upper limits of really hot intake air charges.
fuel/timing management is rc 440s and PMS. i threw away all the JR crap.
now, i have a standalone, i know, and it will be tuned correctly and slightly conservatively, but i am leery after blowing it once. CA 91 octane gas is crap.

Get a used J&S Classic Safeguard. That's what I did. I had the Ultra v.2 with my setup and then when I went Hondata, I sold the v.2 because it was overkill. The Classic is perfect for a standalone if you want the super trick knock functionality that is offered by the Safeguard.
I paid $250 shipped for a Classic Safeguard + dual monitor. Look around...they are out there!

i'll second that vote for buying a used j&s.. since i have hondata and don't need anything but the knock protection, i got a used j&s for $200 (or was it $250??) and an old-school single monitor (retard only, no a/f since i'm gonna use a greddy gauge) for $30.
