Default Oil Return - How Big is Too Big?

My own Personal stock 210BHP Mazda 323 GT-R comes with a 17mm oil return line above the oil line. The return goes in above the oil line.

I'm working on a B18B turbo setup and wondering if there is anything like a maximum size for the return line? IE if it's too large will the turbo be starved for oil?

Bigger than your downpipe? Too big.

As long as the fitting into the oil pan won't be to big that it sits below the oil level line, then you will be fine.

Oil feed and oil drain are on opposite sides of the housing. I've only heard of a drain that's too small, and crimped that would cause a problem....

Ok, sounds good. Anyone know exactly where the stock oil level is? The return is kept above that to try to avoid aireating the oil or just for serviceabillity?

from what i heard i would say like a -10 AN will be plenty, i dont think you can over do it, but there is a point of diminishing return, then it becomes pointless to go over what size...

Just try to tap it at the highest point possible above where the sump would be. If your car is not running oil will drip, pour out. Although, when you start the car the oil level drops enough so that there is nothing stoping a constant flow of Oil comming from the turbo.

Ha, I never thought about looking at the dipstick with the oil pan off to see where the expected oil level would be!
