Default oil return help. where does the oil level sit??

my car is smokcing because of the oil return
my -10 bung is welded at the top of the oil pan but thats still not above the oil level. if i take the oil return off 1 quart of oil will leak out of the oil return bung.
wont this cause my car to smoke? is something wrong here? i though the top part of the pan was supose to be above the oil level.

i'm running the stock p72 oil pan which holes 4 quarts which will be at the top dot on the sip stick

are all your oil returns above your oil level. meaning when you take the return line off no oil leaks out of the pan???

when the engine is running and oil is circulating then the oil level will be lower in the pan. as long as you have the bung as high up as possible then there shouldnt be a problem. is your line kinked at all? any pics that could help us out?

a picture is worth a thousand words in this case.

dumb question, are you using the correct dip stick and positive you arent running too much oil?

thers a picture floating around here showing the place perfect for the bung

i followed this guide
"Make the lowest point of the oil pan fitting approximately 1.1" (28mm) down from the topmost part of the oil pan flange"

mines a bit over half.. no smoking here, once the oil gets hot it will flow down fast enough.. It will be pulled into the pan by gravity.

well the "perfect" place is gonna be determined by your setup. different manifold and turbo configurations are gonna determine where you want your oil return. the best thing to do is mount your mani, turbo and dp and then find the best route for the return line. mark where you want the bung to go, then remove the pan and drill it.

Many people run oil returns at the very bottom of the oil pan (IE the drain plug). Therefor, your problem is not associated with the relative location of the oil level and the hole!

Greddy kits return oil to the drain plug. They wouldn't do that if it could damge the turbo. You don't have to trust me you have to trust a large company that is willing to warrenty turbo's that drain oil to the lowest point in the oil pan.
